SPF1202K TC Rod Bushings ... $42.00 per pair
I would perfer a full replacement unit. Are there any other options available in the US? Some preferably not as expensive as JIC.

How much are you willing to pay and how much comfort are you willing to sacrifice?

Comfort is not a factor

just how much worse does it get with aftermarket tc rods?
I am sure it will be hard to notice, since most guys that get them already have stiff coilovers/ spring/shock setups....

i have eastbear tension rods taht i got from phase2, they are fine, i really don't notice much of a difference, because my previous tension rod was absolutly messed up (not bolted down well, and has a bolt missing), all i know is that it drvies better than the one i had on.

Nitekids, the 2 pictures you posted in the first link are completely different things. The jic pictures is of their tie rods, they're the steering tie rods and connected to the streering rack. The picture from Don's site is stock tension control rods with new whiteline bushings already pressed into them. The tension control rods deal with the caster of the front wheels, i think.
Most aftermarket T/C rods are around $200-250. Kazama, Battle Version, East Bear, etc. make them. Check out the Kazama group buy, the tension rods are part of it, there's a thread in the group buy section on here.
Also if you're going to get new tie rods, check tein, i've heard they aren't nearly as expensive as the JIC ones and are just as good, but i'm not completely sure.

Changing to pillowball t/c rods doesn't affect the butt-feel quality much if at all, since the t/c rod's job is to locate the control arm perpendicular to the direction of suspension motion. It does translate to more feedback through the steering wheel, but, uh, that's the whole point :)
I just got my Battle Version t/c rods from phase2, they look great, nicely made parts.
You might want to get in on that Kazama group buy, they make t/c rods that should be even nicer.

I've herad with solid tc rods when you hit something that pushes the tire back, like a big expansion joint, or where there is new pavement and there is a lip, it makes for a pretty solid hit.

I have the Dspeed units from Projectsilvia.. to give you an idea of change in feel..
If you rate the stock ride with good rubber bushings a 10, then it would be a 9 with Pillowball t/c rods.
Really is NOT a big deal. Just makes the car more responsive, and feel tighter all around.
I would HIGHLY recommend getting in on that GREAT price on the Kazama T/C Rods.. they look awesome.
The dspeed units aren't that great.. the are already developing some surface rust, and they aren't that pretty to begin with.

well, besides cost and appearance there really shouldn't be any difference in performance between brands, right?

your Tie rods dont have bushings so it must be your TC rods. get the Kazamas. bushings are for the weak pilloballs are where its at!

the dspeed perform fine.. but I'll probably be replacing them in the next 6-9 months.. they look trashy.
If I had it to do again, I would make sure I bought one that wouldn't rust.

why not get into the group buy and get it...i am running kazama tc rod and i LOVE it...it's very beefy and i like the dust boot especially...
if not..you can always get eastbear or battleversion...
i am running battle version rear suspension parts...only good think about battleversion...when you break them...replacement parts is only a phone call away

So what is so much better exactly about the Kazama ones? Sam already aquired a battle version one for me. I don't want to back out on it.

well..if you already order the battle verson ones...it's cool..stay with it..u'll like it..
i put one on Sean's car..it's really nice..i can fell the difference...(of course you kinda have to drive it hard to feel the difference..) but his old bushings were VERY shot...
anywayz...only differences are..kazama ones has dust boot cover the ball join...suppose will make it last longer...
but don't worry...if you go with battle version..u can order each parts when it ever go wrong..

Somebody told me a while back that the Battle Version stuff was designed for the S13 and then adapted to fit the S14's. So if you were to go with the Battle Versions, you might not have as much room for adjustments as you would with say Kazama or Teins that were specifically designed for the S14. Battle Version stuff is supposed to be awesome though, so I really wouldn't sweat it too much.

from what I understand they are made for S13s and for them to work on S14s you lose liek an INCH of adjustment. probably not a big deal since most will never use the adjustment anyway. I got my Monkey Magics cause I wanted something designed for the S14 specifically call me retentive about that I dunno. just makes me feel more comfortable. I need to get mine readjusted. I had like 2 degrees of caster dialed in and the alignment shop took it back out cause I forgot to tell them to leave it and now the car feels funny :p
