i have a complaint! 240sx speakers suck... i mean the size... they are way too small... has anyone modified the speaker size?
especially the back ones? has anyone tried 5+"? or 6 1/2"?
tell us how to do it? i know cutting metal is required

what abt the fronts?
any pictures?
i put in after market speakers from Pioneer and amped the speakers, and it still sucks....

well, as far as the rears go, I don't know, but you can do the fronts with a bit of chicken wire and some fiberglass.

I have 5 1/4" in my doors, custom made a mount out of particleboard..

I have 6X9's in my rear shelf (the piece that covers the space between backseat and the back of the car)

If you have a hatchback, mount your rears on that, much less hassle and better speaker placement.

If yo know how to rebuild the box in your door, you can fit a 6" speaker in each door.

Or pay 50 bucks per door plus the speaker to an audio shop.

Yeah, doors easy, 6.5" components in my s13. Didn't box them, just have some waterproof foam baffles behind them. Make some flat MDF or plywood baffles, and for godsakes get rid of the amps if you have an aftermarket deck. Front amps are in the plastic baffles, rear amp is on the drivers side behind the shock tower (kind of a pain in the ass to get out, but worth it). Those amps basically take the 20 some odd watts of power from your deck and cut them to 5 watts per channel. If you're really into it, get some new wiring .

I'm still running 4x6 plates on my shock towers, and honestly see no need to upgrade (I like my music, but not THAT much). If you want bigger in back, use the hatch cover like everybody said. No metal cutting and pretty good speaker placement. You may have to reinforce it, the vibration would probably rattle on those to l'il hinges up front. Look around, see what works.

I got a set of BA rally 620 components in my front doors. They crank and they r still under powered. Any one know how to take out the rear amps or can I wire my new speakers through them. by the way my car is a 96 and its got 6.25 all around.

Every time I try to figure it out I get frustrated. And I can't seem to find a web site that will explain how to do it. Factory premium sound sux!!! To many problems when you upgrade.

Ya i got a 96 with 6 1/4 all the way around i got a poineer cd player and just replaced the back to speakers with 6 1/4 pioneers and im going to replace the fronts too when i get the money, but neway the 6 1/4 have NO BASS TO THEM!! and i went to the sound shop today to c about at least putting some 6x9's in the back and he said it was possible but would be alot of trouble. Plus im goin to put a sub back there so im not really goin to have to worry about bass. Neway, I know the 240sx SE's came with bigger speakers in the back u might want to check them out to c if u can do some kinda transplant or something...... but i don't guess that would work on an s13 lol .... neway write back and tell us what u did.

round speakers r better than oval dont get the 6x9's

10-11-2001, 07:58 PM
round vs oval..... theres no contest its about power placement and speaker performance. n e ways, 6 1/2 speakers are really not made to handle all that much bass, and plus if there is too much bass from them all u will end up with is rattling, u could think about adding a small subwoofer to accomodate ur bass needs

Most people that I have spoken to about car stero say you should put your good speakers up front. If your going to put a box in the trunk, you don't really need rear speakers. If you've got the money of course do the front and back. My 6.25 components cost me $300, The place where I bought them said that if I ever did the rear speakers, don't spend more than $150-175. Oh, and the rear speakers on the SE are only 6.25, the huge grill around them make them look a lot bigger then they really are.

I'll try to get my door panels off and get some pics sometime. I'd dissagree on the rear speaker thing. It is nice to have some sound coming from behind you, more immersive. . . I s'pose it also depends on the music you listen too. My 4x6 plates ($100) are decent, though I need to fade back to hear them I could go pretty in depth on bypassing the amps on an s13, though I may need to go pull my car apart to find the color coding. It'll have to happen when I wire for my sub, you'll get pix then.

6x9s will provide adequate bass for *most* people. Though listen to them, 'cause if yer into music your wants will always get greater and greater

The way i like my set up is the small in front, mids in back, then sub in the trunk. I don't think ya should rule out the 6x9's i had a set of Pioneer's in the back of the sentra i had ..... #### DID THEY HIT!!!! I was always having someone compliment me on my SUBS!!!! lmao and i had no subs just 6x9's!!!! :-) but with a sub and new 6 1/4's all the way around i think it will sound really good.

Take a look at a concert set up, the sound comes from up front. The back gets filled so it doesn't sound hollow. And bass works on different frequencies, it will penetrate walls and such easier. So as long as there are subs somewhere in your car, your all set. It is deffinately a matter of prefrence. I agree with the submersive point.

www.240sx.org has a howto on their site on how to install custom speakers in the back or some shit. i never read the entire thing but it might be what you're looking for.
