'24 Kitchen, rodding it out a bit, stripping it down to a more lean kitchen.
losing the linoleum floor and drop ceiling, replacing some rotten hardwood, then sanding and sealing, ripping out the ancient plaster behind the drop ceiling and putting in drywall, moving some pipes and shit, wiring in new lighting and a fan. in the near future, losing the revolting countertop to be replaced with a poured concrete counter; getting my paint on; refinishing cabinets in a more neutral color; replacing all cabinet windows with antique glass out of a bunch of old storm windows i have (they're currently a mix of plastic and glass).

i called in sick today to keep working on the drywall and taping. should have all the pieces in place today, then we can hang the fan, finish the tape, and be painting by midweek. also hanging my parents' old screen door on my back door today. ooh guuurrrl

Looks like fun. I feel for ya cause I know how it is to not have a kitchen.

Concrete countertops are the shit. I made one myself for my master bath. People can't believe I actually made it. Shit is expensive (comparable to granite) if you pay someone to do it. It's really not that hard to do yourself. Don't know if you thought about it or not yet.

Refinish the cabinets and get new hardware.

Looks good.

I've always wanted to have stainless steel countertops, like in a commercial kitchen. Not as pretty as marble/corian, but much easier to clean and more durable. Probably cheaper too.

yeah, everything's getting done by me and the roommate, looking for maximum payout in the end
do you have pics of your countertop? did you put rebar in or no? i've just started looking at how people do it, it's going to be rad.
and yeah, they'll be getting less 80's hardware f'sho

also steel countertops would be cool, but i feel that's something that might have to be professionally installed/molded/something, and that'd drive the cost way up? it's down to either cheapo formica or concrete, just to keep costs at a minimum. we're aiming for a ridiculous profit off this house when all is said and done

did you put rebar in or no?

I think reinforcing wire would be better than rebar; considering how thin the concrete slab is.

whats the sr20 vs ka24 equivalent for kitchens? lol

i like kitchens, what colour are you going for cabinets? i vote gloss white, cause it looks clean when done proper.

Yes rebar needs to be used if they are longer spans. I'll post some pis up for you later. I did my bathroom one different then most. I used the more rough side (side you trowel not the side the against the melamine) because I wanted a warn textured look.

Stainless steel is almost the most expensive countertops out there next to glass. If you are looking to do a DIY project, unless you are a pro, steel isn't gonna be the way to go.

Stick with the concrete. It's easy and the results will wow people.

when we were renovating my old kitchen we found old letters from who I assume was the original owner. Crazy because they were love letters and they looked pretty damn old.
