Ok everyone i want you to know that this is a somewhat b/s thread... just me talking about budgeting my money for the car. Probly wont learn anything, so those people don't read on, but don't flame for no reason.
Now on to the topic, i got my 92 FB with 82k on it (so its pretty clean) with a Pioneer DEH-215DE or some crap, from like early 90's, piece of crap, the screeen doesn't work, and the settings get screwd up and you cant change it back. and the passinger side audio of my car sometimes doesn't work. and i really need something new. I am friends with the owner and operator of a very good stero shop in town that is gonna do my work. I work really hard for my 240 just to save for my car, nothing else, and i see everyone elses badass car and know i don't have the money for everything i really want. So i think im gonna buy a new Pioneer DEH-7400MP, and new Planet Audio mids and highs. Probly be around $385. Should i spend some of my savings? or keep saveing for things like SR20, Tein Suspension. STB's, Seats, Stearing Wheel, Wheels??BTW, i have around $3500 Sorry if im babling but its really late, and im tired, TTYL:D

Its all up to you. Personally I love having nice audio, and $400 in audio isn't that much, so why not get it out of the way. Driving around with the broke S13 stock speakers suck, I know, I did it for 2 years.

dude, everybodys BADASS cars can go to hell.. I am in the boat with you and I too know how much of a bitch it is to stash all yoru money away and drive a stock (or pos like me) car while everyone is all bling bling and yada yada... lemme tell you home slice.... keep it up and itll all pay off. It hasnt for me, yet , but soon.
stereo, go for it....this isnt a dedicated track car, and you NEED decent of not better tunes for a daily driver.....splurge my man, enjoy the fruits of your ungodly toiled labor. IF you have been saving like you imply you have, you deserve it.
I get a lil excited on this topic, because im in the boat...
Rock the boat....dont rock the boat baby...rock the boat....

check out sounddomain.com. I host my car there and I have a nice system that cost me nearly nothing to put together.
If you take your time, use good components, and wait to find them at a good price (buying used helps if you know what you are doing) and if you do the work yourself, you will find you can have a really nice sounding system without spending a fortune.
I wouldn't drive a car that doesn't have decent sound! I, for one, will not sacrifice my sound system, even if it's over 50 lbs! Sure, SR, suspension and power is fun, but it would be boring to me without my sound system.
400$ is nothing in mobile audio. Spend on! (anyways, 400$ on a SR is nothing too)

Thanks Guys! I was guessing i was gonna have more of a negetive feedback, but now i think im just gonna go ahead and buy the deck tonight or tomm. Yea I know how much you can spend in audio, a very good friend of mine (that goes to the same shop) has a 97 S14 with 2 Aluminum Sony 12's in a custom box that was built basically inside his trunk, with a planet audio 400w amp running sony mids and highs, a 850w planet audio amp running subs, and a independent optima redtop battery flush mounted in his trunk. Also a PS2 under his seat attached to a 6.5" Pioneer monitor flush mounted in his din sockets obove his Pioneer deck. He has spend a little more than $400, but he greatly regrets it, because its not a show car, he just got kinda carried away, and finally realized hes gonna start over and took out all his subs, and crap in his trunk, left the amp for his mids and highs, and took out his monitor and mounted the deck back in the origional din slot, and took out the PS2, i am extremly proud of him, because i always told him how much the weight was affecting his car, now...he agrees:D In several weeks i know im going to have 1 inverted ported sub built and installed in my hatch, just can't decide if im gonna use a 10" or a 12" planet audio sub...MUST SAVE WEIGHT:D

btw, forgot to say, speaker installion and deck is prety easy just time consuming first time you do it. If you are getin an amp/sub too, i wouldnt mess with wirings the first time on those.

i went from a pioneer 7300 (stolen) to a pioneer premier 640 (model below the 7400mp). i think you'll love the deck, i'm kinda wishing i got that model since i can't play MP3s.. but i'm not complaining, i just stock up on free CD-Rs whenever i find an ad :D

yea in general, Pioneer decks are best as far as price/quality range. sure you can get alpine eclipse or kenwood but thats gonna be exta $$. i had alpine before, i cant really tell the difference. right now i have as far as a deck, Pioneer DEH-P6500. its a great deck for 200$ range.

I love Pioneer.. I've used Kenwood, and eclipse, and always go back to Pioneer for sheer reliability. They sound awesome too.
You'll find the mojority of the poeple on these boards have audio in thier cars.. MANY with subs.
I personally have a good bit invested with MB Quart Components up front, and mids out back, infinity Subs.. etc.. I just make sure the subs and amps are removable for track days.

if you are careful about choosing a lightweight sub, you can make a fiberglass box and have the whole thing mounted up under 20lbs.

With about $600, you can have a nice mp3 head unit, great mids, and a really pounding system. I know cause I just did it. Try to get as much as you can off Ebay. The market up is ridiculously cheaper on Ebay than if you buy it at stores.

ebay = no warranty. one of those things that I believe to be invaluable is an audio equip. warranty.

yes no warranty.
buying stuff on e-bay from a guy with no, or alot neg feedback = stupid.
buying stuff on e-bay from a guy with good/ alot of feedback = stuff for cheaper, Smart.
