no dealer to return to.... bought it private party style. car is a 1989 corolla gt-s with a 20V swap. from what i can figure, doesn't look like the oil pump was replaced when the engine was swapped. pump took a shit, and then engine shortly thereafter. i hate cars. perhaps i should cash out and buy a beige honda accord and join the rest of plain jane america......... ;_;

That's not what you get for buying a toyota, that's what you get for buying a car with a swapped motor. A swap that most people just rig together and try to make work.

i already has a fixed gear for when i feel like an emofag. also a cannondale for when i want to wear spandex. i'll probably end up selling my motorcycle to buy a new engine.

eh. i knew i was taking a chance, but when the previous owner is has been a toyota tech for the last 15 years, i do like my chances. i dunno, i broke my rule of not buying modded cars, and it blew up in my face, figuratively and literally.
on the brightside, i have a friend with a 20v i can pick up for cheap. i dunno. i've never owned a non-nissan product, so this is steep learning curve, as far as diagnosing issues and shit when they come up.

it's not junk, THANK GOD it didn't throw a rod. i could rebuild if i overnighted parts from japan; then i would have a 10 second car. price for a silvertop 20v long block is about $700-800 according to ebay.

and ebay is overpriced as shit when it comes to motors. Go thru the regular channels and talk to import shops. I'm sure theres gotta be at least one shop that also imports 4AGE 20Vs.

Black top maybe but you can definitely get a silver for less.

can't you just throw a bottom end from a regular 4ag under the 20v head?

ahhh either way, the car will be down for a while.
In which case it will sit in your driveway for weeks.
(Which sucks because you will look at it and get all bummed out.)
I'm in that boat over here. Heartbreak City.
I hope you can get it back together soon though!

forget this 20v nonsense. swap in an sr. you'd be surprised how simple it is.

nah. iirc, the silvertop 20v's are non-interference, so i'd have to stuff 20v pistons in it anyways.
so you...bought a lemon.
no

yes

i live in the middle of the city. my bike has spent most of it's life in my ownership being parked in my backyard cuz there's nowhere to ride in the city.

thanks man. it's only been one day, and i want to take a baseball bat to it. too bad i can't find my big iron pipe....

yeah, the easy button of swaps.
anywho, i started to prep the engine for a swap, but it's fucking raining right now, so i have to take a break. probably gonna try to secure a uhaul trailer to get it out of philly and to a friends house and try to get the swap done in one day. perhaps i'll try to chronicle the adventure of my first swap.

Ha ha.
Yeah, I want to know how it goes.
end of day one. so far, i'm on pace to be able to finish it tomorrow, just gotta disconnect some more crap and pull the old chunk out and reverse, but it's just going slow because:
1. i'm working by myself
2. i'm labeling everything as i disconnect.
3. there's a lot of ghetto shit to fix/deal with.
it's a good learning experience, i guess. i think ultimately, i'm just gonna take my time and do it right instead of rushing to get it together and end up with another dead car next week. gonna aim try to get it done by next weekend.

plus one Toyota is great for reliability. Swaps however not so much.
