View Full Version : New Silvia

All the car manufacturer's, domestic and imports, are coming out or already have come out with 4 cylinder turbocharged cars, or 4 cylinder sport compact cars to be focused at the young enthusiast market, now the SER was a success but I have a feeling that a rwd turbo us spec sr20det silvia would go over better then any car out right now, what I am trying to do is get an online petition going for Nissan to come out with a us spec silvia with the same specs as the jspec cars, rwd sr20det, if it is detuned for us regs. that is ok because we can change that but a us spec silvia will be all we need with a street legal sr20det. Anybody who wants to help me get an online poll/petition going I would appriciate it, and help send it to all forums you know about and email it to all friends you have, I'm sure if nissan see's other car manufacturers with 4 cylinder turbo cars that originated in japan and then see how many kids want this they might think about putting it into production, this is a slim chance but it will be worth it if the silvia comes to the us, we already have wrx, were getting the sti, we have the evolution, could silvia be next? Maybe, this could help though. If anybody wants this then help me out, im not a computer guy so i dont know how to make the online petitions for everyone to go to and put there name email etc. Any help or interest is appriciated

Sorry bud, it's been done.
Keep in mind that even if we got everyone on this board plus others to sign a petetion we'd still only represent about 3-4 percent of the people out there.
That's not enough to warrent, nissan changing their lineup especially if it would compete with the 350z.
The silvia will not be brought to the states. Never.
dunno about the S16 though.:D But that's a whole other topic.

The Silvia is no longer produced in Japan, the chances of them starting up production again and getting the engine approved for US sale for a small niche market is next to none.

sr20det is a dead engine.

Alright nvm then i guess, I was just thinking a newly designed silvia for the us market might go over well with its reputation in japan, kind of like the wrx with its reputation in rally, and how they brought that out here. If this has already been done then nvm.

what would make more sense would be to take a 350Z chassis, strip it down (no navigation/power seats/etc.) and plop a QR25DE motor in there and call it a 250Z and watch them FLY out of the dealerships. They could have two models. One that is stripped to the max, and another that has LSD/6-speed/Brembos/18" wheels/etc.
I would buy one today.

Not necessarily. Yes, stock it would be a bit slow...but just plop some better valve springs in there and a nice little T3/T04 and you'd be good to go. It'd be light, quick, and oh-so-sexy. I want one!

well, alrighty then, Oni. you go tell nissan to destroke a QR25, turbocharge it, and plop it in a Z :D
not saying it couldn't happen that way, but it seems to me like putting a QR25DE would be soooo easy. The engine is already emissions certified, and the chassis has been crash tested. They'd probably have to crash a couple with the new motor to prove that it's ok.
Other than that, they'd just have to fab motor mounts, wiring, and probably a new bellhousing for the tranny. Mount up a nice exhaust (and make a tubular header while they're in there) and you'd be good to go. Oh, I guess they would need to change the spring rates too, but that's easy. Then just drop some Spec-V seats in there for the cheap model and some GT-R seats for the race model, and ship it out. I'll take mine in Le Mans Sunset, thanks.
Seriously, though, this car could be done, and I think they could do it for under $25k for the good model. Keeping in mind that it would *not* have a 9 billion watt 72 speaker Bose (crap) stereo, and no fancy navigation system (more room for gauges and boost controllers :D).
Now *this* is a petition we should start.

Your missing the point :o It would be a cost saving model, no turbo no unnecassary extras. Also the kind of person that would by the lower model would want cheaper insurance, and a turbo would not give that to them. I think they could strip it down to the 20k range myself, mid 20's is to close to the 350Z's price.
EDIT: BTW I don't think Nissan will ever make a Z model with a 4 cyl. so this really is a pipe dream.

Wasnt there a thread a while back about nissan saying that they will make a 250sx or something?

stock QR25DE is rated at 175 hp in the Sentra. I think with a decent tubular header, more aggressive cams and a nice, open exhaust and intake, you could see 185-195 stock from that motor. If you put a turbo on it, you'd have no problem seeing the same numbers as the V6.
but ca18guy is right, this will never happen. If you look at how many cars Nissan is putting the VQ35DE in, it's obvious that they're using that as a mass-production piece to get the costs down. It's kinda like how Chevy 350s cost almost nothing because they make THOUSANDS of them every month.
