Bought myself a 1992 Nissan 240sx this weekend, lets start with some pictures:

Looking at the pictures you can see that I have a lot of work to do, but the body is amazing! The car has 217K miles on it, so that makes it look even better. The timing chain is making a horrible noise and I had to drive top speed of 50mph for the 100 miles home, but I already have an 80K mile engine/tranny lined up to put in it.

I'm happy, the car is loaded, even has the head up speedo thing. I didn't spend a lot on the car, so I have plenty left from the sale of my CRX to put in the engine/tranny and new seats and other things.

Gonna have a lot of questions soon, and I'll be looking for anyone local to Eastern North Carolina to grab some parts from, if you can help in that area, e-mail me.

Nice clean body... 7 spokes... it's the best you can hope for, really. I love that color...

I think someone pooped in your interior though :D

BTW this really belongs in Chat

OK, well lets make it a tech thread.

Since I am swapping out the KA for a KA the swap should be basic, but the engine going in is a 1991, is anything going to be different?

As long as the engine is going to be out is there anything I should go ahead and do to it before its installed?

When I start the car the digital speedo comes up with "0" then it fades out, doesn't show up when the car is running, also the heads up won't show up eaither. Where should I start looking?

How can I tell by looking if the rear is LSD equipped? I know the obvious test, but I wanna know how I can tell by looking.

More questions on the way.

'91-'92 are functionally identical, no problems there.

Give the engine bay a good bath!

HUDs fail all the time, does it come back after warming up? Do a search, the HUD topic gets discussed a lot.

Coupes didn't really have the LSD available... If it'll make you sleep better at night, look for an orange sticker on the rear cover of the diff on the driver's side near where it mounts to the subframe. No orange sticker, no LSD.

OK, I just thought it was an option.

The HUD never comes up, the digital speedo on the car shows up when the car is started, then goes away and doesn't come back, so I have no working speedometer. I would like to have both working, the one on the dash and the HUD.

Here's another one... wasn't ABS available in '92? How would I know if my car came equipped?

I'm really not dreaming that my car has all this stuff I just wanna know before I go out and buy new rotors/pads and have the wrong thing.

ABS was, yours doesn't have it, I can tell just from the pictures.

There would be only two lines coming from the master cylinder, leading to a large ABS actuator unit on the passenger side of the engine bay

You'd also have an ABS warning light in the instrument cluster.

Cool thanks, that makes things a lot easier to deal with.

I love it. Check out the S13 front ends for $885, it'd be a wonderful first mod.

Nice coupe!

I work in Greenville, live in a city in the area of Greenville. Good to see someone here from NC instead of CA.

$885 doesn't sound bad, I thought that front end swap cost a whole lot more than that. Where can I get information on wher to buy this swap... how about a CF hood for that front end.

As for first swap, that will not be it unless I find the parts for less than $885. First step is putting in a nicer KA engine/tranny. Then I'm putting on Eibach springs and some new shocks, at the same time maybe some engine bolt ons and nicer seats.
