View Full Version : Bottom line - Nismo Mounts Higher?

Got my car all ready to get on the road...now the damn DMAX hood dosen't sit near Flush.Seems its contacting the Valve cover mostly.
Seen a bunch of Dmax hoods on S13's and can't believe its a fitment issue though it dose have some lines I'd much rather have "buttoned" up a tad better.can't Mount my Pins Till this is all done.
I keep reading Nismo mounts (SR20) sit higher than normal or is it that they are "newer" and haven't "collapsed" as the old ones would.

I couldn't even shut my stock hood on my KA after installing them 5yrs ago. Sold them because they raised the front of the motor above the fenders. I've heard of alot of people having this issue.

I've read plenty of reviews where people say they sit higher than stock. Seems like it's hit or miss sometimes.

Yeah... I had the same problem. I could no longer use my new cusco front strut tower bar, so I was forced to sell it.

^ that would be the make or break statement.
i wonder if anyone has tried to reverse the mounts when it happens.

240sxaddict tried and still it did not correct the situation.

yeah there was an article in drift tengoku that had every aftermarket mount for SR20s and nismo sat the highest compared to stock.

DO NOT install NISMO motor mounts. Fill OEM mounts with urethane and that's almost same as Nismo mounts.

there you go the definitive answer is, YES!
Nismo vs. Nissan Motor Mounts: 240SX Technical Forum: Nissan Forums / Infiniti Forums - NICOclub (http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=194877&postid=4473535)
they bought new oem mounts and measured them then sombody mesaured brand new nismo mounts and the nismos are 3mm higher.
plus most people ugrade from saggy 15 year old mounts, which are sunken in already and thats why it looks that the nismos raise the engine a lot.

yeah i think it sits "higher" because compared to the old junked out motor mount sags. I couldnt fit my downpipe cause it would hit the underbody in my KA-T -_-.

Yup...my D/P does come really close to the Frame also.
Seems for starters the Strut bar was contacting one of the Cross Frames of the hood.REMOVED that and it still looks like I've got it raised FOR Ducting towards the End.though Better.INtake Filter sticks up a tad and thats touching a bit.No problem.
If I can get some spacers for the Bolts then I may Roll w/ this.Having a hard time finding bolts that thread all the way on the hood.Stocks go in like a couple turns but don't come Near Bottoming out.
Might Ditch the Nismo's and put some Silicones STockers in there and just get a Torque Dampner for the tower if that'll fit.

Hmm, I would rather my motor sit a little higher and have more oil pan clearance than I do now.
I've dented it twice.
I don't want to dent it again.
Haha.

Haha.
I was waiting for that... Normally they raise the oil pan above the sway bar.

I never had a problem when I installed my Nismo motor mounts. With the KA or SR, I also have no problems with my front strut bar (JIC). Its close to the VC but does not touch.
I guess I got lucky
Although my bro S13, he had to remove the strut bar.
Difference in S13 to S14 maybe...

i had avid solid mounts, and i made spacers to move the engine up higher (the oil pan was resting on the ground), my D-max hood definitely did not fit so i cut a hole in it.
i personally think a hole in your hood is much better than a hole in your oil pan.

Difference in S13 to S14 maybe...
That is correct. You have more clearance in s14 than s13 with same motor mounts.

Yup same here.... Nismo's on S13 with Redtop, I had to shim the STB and the valve cover definitely rubs on the hood, but rather have dent hood than dent oil pan = blow up engine.

I had no trouble with anything, in two different S13 chassis. Stock crushed mounts to Nismo mounts. The engine moved up noticeably, but there was no trouble with three different kinds of strut bars or the hood - actually, two hoods, the stock 180-style and the Silvia hood I'm running now.
I did have issues with the hot pipe hitting the hood, but then I had the same issue with the stock mounts, it's just that with the Nismo mounts I could no longer compensate by jamming it further down into its couplers and had to switch to a different setup.
I like the fact that the oil pain is higher up and better protected.

cant you just put spacers on the strut bar? a few washers under where it mounts to raise is off the valve cover? i wouldnt do it lol but i was just saying lol... and yeah i would cut a hood over a dented oil pan...

Yeah it just raises very slightly but should clear your strut tower bars with ease.

Yeah I put washers there and I autox and track with it... Just two washers and I am good.

There is a R and a L side... I'm sure some of these people running into issues just throw them on their car thinking they were the same for either side... I've had no issues with mine and a Cusco STB... It's close, like 3-4mm or so, but still have clearance. There may be a chance there is a slight difference between the S13 and S14, but I'm pretty sure it's the same part number for the motor mounts on all the s-chassis'.

and yeah i would cut a hood over a dented oil pan...
Excellent Point and As low as my car is..I'd rather leave it where it is.
Greddy Pan sits a tad higher than the Cross member.GOOD!
Strut Bar comes no-where near the valve cover but I guess this Dmax hood has Diff Supports and rather Thick to incorp the vent and keep it Sturdy...I may just run 4 hood pins.(I cut out the stock latch due to me orig gonna run a Stacked FMIC setup)
if youre only concerned with your hood not closing, then youve only got half the problem in mind. if these mounts raise the engine up enough to hold the hood up, think what it does to your center of gravity by raising all that weight up that far.
the best mounts are homemade as far as im concerned. buy urethane and choose a durometer that suits you, take about 5" of grade 8 bolt shank and nice fat washer locked in the center with two nuts. then stick the bolt through a can and cover the bolts center portion with the urethane. you want it to basically look like a big bolt going through the center of a hockey puck. the washer holds it in place and acts as a lever to apply pressure to the mount. works good.
had to make a pic to explain -

problem solver... i plan on getting these to lower my motor back down to atleast stock if not lower then stock as my nismo mounts also brought the motor up a little bit.. just shy of hitting my strut bar.
