alright, so my and my friend are eating poop in his car...its a civic...forgive him, anywho so we did a few launches infront of my house so i could feel his awsome torque:rolleyes: and when i get out of the car, i look at the tire marks and theres two parallel lines. its a stock h/b...no lsd...nada...how is this possible?

It's an animal called dumb luck. The thing about UNlimited slip is that WHICHever tire gets less traction spins... What happens if the gods of grip decide that NEITHER tire gets traction?

done the same thing with my friend's 99 ex civic and my '90 fwd audi: two tire marks in a non-LSD launch. if both wheels don't get traction, both will spin freely. it's when one wheel starts gaining traction (or one loses it more) that you'll start doing one-wheelers.. e.g. you could start out with a 2-wheel burnout, but say one wheel suddenly gains traction, the other wheel will just keep spinning and you go from two tire marks to one... seen it happen and it's funny :D

my roommate has a 2002 civic EX and it will spin both wheels, forever, but it has no limited slip. We did hella burnouts in it on some old gd-r rims with ****ty tires and even if he turns the wheel from side to side while he launches, it spins both tires.
he went to the dealer and asked and he said no, its got an open diff.
so WTF?

that i don't get, b/c with the open diff cars i've done that on, if you turn the wheel, the inside one keeps spinning and the outside wheel goes normal...

If both wheels have the same amount of friction, voila...

dude, his car has unequal half shafts, and we were on this ****ty road with gravel and stuff on it.
there is NO WAY each tire coulda been gettin equal traction. we were both puzzled, which is why we had him crank the wheel from side to side the next time. same result.
weird, isn't it?

Well a diff will distribute torque evenly until one wheel slips. I dont think length of the halfshafts matters. So is possible for both wheels to spin if they both loose traction at the same time.

ever spin the wheel? Not too easy right? The difference in friction has to be greater than that...and the amount of friction between a tire spinning very fast and the road is not very high. If he starts spinning the tires and then turns the wheel, he's not really changing the load on them. Try starting the car without dropping the clutch, in first gear, and drive in a very tight circle. Floor it...you'll light up the inside.

simple experiment with open diffs,

wet the ground in front of one wheel only , then launch it and voila you only get one wheel spinning, this is a common phenomonon, on FWD cars, It happened on my 98 integra all the time. Espicially when you pop the clutch while your turning, both will initially spin but eventually it will only spin one half way thru the turn.

;)

my escort, had an open diff. if you launched, every once in a while it would chirp both tires but ALWAYS one would start spinning and I got the dreaded one wheel peel. If you turned the wheels back and forth, the inside tire would ALWAYS spin.
escorts are total ****, btw.

anyway his civic is a LOT harder to spin a single wheel... its very un open diff like.

well well, i got an open diff and i launch with both tires, only when im turning will it do a peg leg burn out, maybe you guys are just too fat and put too much weight on one side of the car:p

Okay, so I'm 5'7" and weigh 220... My mommy just says I'm big boned. LOL, but I agree with you, in most cases, you will get both wheels spinning, unless you are turning or one tire gets less more grip for whatever reason.

my open diff sucks!! i was driving around in the rain today and just punching it from a 10-15 roll would break a tire loose
thank god this ugly POS is sitting in my garage, best $80 ever spent (i hope) :D

my friend used to have a v6 95 firebird and that thing didn't have lsd, and we used to do brake stands and both tires would spin most of the time, it was kinda funny.

btw we beat the **** out of that car it was so funny...ahh i miss highschool.

I don't have LSD in my 240, but sometimes while doing stand still burnouts (aka-powerbraking) I've had both wheels spinning. I personally don't think of it much. I just take it as dumb luck..

with my 90 240 for some reason when i do burnouts or circles like in 2nd (very easy in my car) both of my rears spin, even on high traction asphalt, i can usually go to third and continue. my nose kicks in nicely and i can easily spin around things like cones for as long as i want. ive never really double checked but im sure my car would have open diff. i plan on getting kaaz unit anyway

lateral forces... less force onthe tires as htey are going sideways, they spin easier.
mine spins both too in donuts.

at least someone knows their easy bake ovens from foreman grills... didn't u play with enough easy bakes as a kid to know the difference Evil S14 :p

when i peel out with my 240 it makes two marks but one is longer that the other, and same with my 96 chevy blazer and 93 v6 camry. niether have LSD. i seem to have a problem with only one wheel spinning on my huffy.

PS: i almost finished my other project vehicle.

all the stuff i made in an easy bake oven tasted like crap... maybe i was really putting it in an LSD? :o

But this was a good way to save face...

Personally, my stuff came out even worse, I was cooking in an OPEN diff until I realized what it was, then I went and got flamed on www.easybakeforums.com asking why and got flamed, so I did some research, now all is good.
