Alright Zilvian's

I wanna limit this question to people with actual mechanical experience and ppl that have experienced this and repaired themseleves .

Picked up an S14 Auto SE few days ago, guy said the bought it from a girl and said he was gonna fix it up and drive it.

It has a blown head gasket.

I drained the block prior to loosening the head

Well i guess its safe to say the Rings are still good in #3 lol

Cleaned out

You know water cannot be compressed so I don’t know how many times the engine has been turned over.

Of course I did it 2-3 times to diagnose the Engine before pulling the head

I've never dealt with a cylinder filled with coolant and I hate dealing with unknown engines

This is what im wondering

I’m worried that maybe the con-rod could have been bent or maybe a crushed bearing???

I crudely measured the distance from the top of the piston to the top of the block and the both came up the same, so im guessing that a good sign.

I dont wanna spend a lot of money on this engine

I'd hate to machine the head and put everything back together and find out the block is fucked.

This is just a temp engine until the RB is finished.

What do you think?

EDIT: Im working in my Aprt. parking lot, so i dont have the tools to pull the engine and work on it in my aprt anymore.
Plus i dont wanna put that much time into it

Come on guys i know somebody's dealt with a blown head gasket on a KA

Maybe its my Theard title throwing everybody off or have noboday have a cylinder filled with coolant??

Dude, i understand what you mean. I work for Chevorlet and i've seen what water will do to and engine, ive seen the aftermath of a rod going through a block (its not pertty). and i would get another ka to be safe. Nothing would piss me off more than to get a new head gasket put everything back together which takes while, and drive a car with a engine that about to crap a rod.

just my .02

hope for the best man

well, at least it has fairly new pistons. lol.

but seriously, looking at that coolant in #3 and you said you had turned it over it could end up being pretty bad.

I'd say first just buy a new head gasket (cheap) and see if it runs then. (since the only problem you mentioned was the blown head gasket). if it doesn't run or you find out the problem is more costly, get another ka for cheap, and save the time and money from repairing your current engine and apply it to the rb instead.

good luck with it

Yea if you really can you can find a good low milage shorthblock for no more than $400 but since you're doing all the work in a parking lot is kinda hard to do the swap, But I think its able to be done. So I thought I throw that out there for "option 2" or "back up plan" if you really dont want to take the block apart and rebuid it.

Good luck with it

well i just got back from machining the head.

i'll probably just give it a shot.

Im gonna order an OEM H/G and OEM Head Studs and slap it on there.

If the block is fucked then im only out $115 all together

And i got another KA is the S13 next to the S14

Alrighty so i got the head bolted back down NO ROD KNOCK!! YEY!!!

Head was machined, bought an OEM head Gasket, and OEM Head Studs from the dealership

Cleaned the block and bolted down the head EXACTLY PER FSM

Took FOREVER to get the engine started, over one hour of cranking and fucking with timing to get it started, and ended up that timing was perfect to begin with.

Engine idles fine runs and drives but still billows out white smoke from the stock exhaust, I changed the oil twice, Oil was chocolate milk after the first change, looks alot better now (still clean)

I was worried about the white smoke though. I pulled the O2 sensor and NO white smoke came out from the bung,

No change in coolant level, Oil is golden, car run pretty cool

My Question....

So is it possible the exhaust's resonator and muffler is still soaked with coolant and water ans still burring it off? the car sat up for a long time too.

you should also do a leak down test to make sure everything is good... as for the smoke let the car run and see if its burning the coolant..also make sure temperature is regular..

Have you driven the car to get it up to temperature? There is probably a lot of moisture in the crank case that needs to burn off.

I briefly drove it around the complex maybe for like 4 minutes, But ive let it idle for like 15-25 minutes, I dont trust the stock gauge just yet, but it stayed steadily under the half way mark.

But it also has a brand new Radiator and just running straight water for now.

I thought there was still water in the crank case but i pulled off the valve cover breather valve and saw no moisture.....

I wanna think its just all in the exhaust cuz when i pulled out the O2 there was no white smoke.... Im just paranoid

The VC hose is the intake for the PCV system, you shouldn't see anything there. The outlets are the 4 ports on the underside of the intake manifold coming from behind the alternator.

Drive it out and about for 15min. That should burn everything off. Idling is not going to get the car up to temperature.

hmm weird

well I took it for a drive earlier, drives fine only a little bit of white smoke now
I think when it idles for a bit then when I accel it puffs a little bit, im stiff iffy on taking out on a long drive.
