View Full Version : Crossed thread wheel stud. Quickest fix?

Okay story is I f-up and didn't take my time put my wheel back on and was really tried. I have auto-x event I want to go to tomorrow/today now afternoon so I don't have a lot of time between now and then. Maybe 2 hours max. Also this is a 4 lug car if that matters.

Should I just replace it?
Or can I rethread for temp for auto-x?

buy a stud on the way there and replace it. it's an easy fix.

Yeah, it wouldn't take long to do it. Buy a stud on the way to the event and do it there real quick, super easy fix for max safety.

u CAN get it re-threaded (with a die) an a auto place, like a tire place...but id replace it.

yup either solution is an easy fix, id just replace, it would take 2 seconds to and its completely fixed the end

a 12x1.5 die i believe should be enough for a temp fix. Use some penetrating oil

Is it that easy to replace the stud? I remember having to take off all of the brakes... Or is there lil place where I can reach into?

Yeah you've got to pull off the caliper (60 secs) and remove the rotor (5sec to 30 sec). Cmon man lol, replace the $2 stud.

When I did my studs, I just removed the caliper, took off the brake disc, hammered out the stud, popped the new one in, put the disc back on, slap on a washer or two, and torqued it until it was all the way in. Since you're only replacing one, and it's stock, just hand torque it until it stops budging, eye ball compare it to the other studs, and put everything back on.

Super easy man, just do it.
