View Full Version : Installing magnecore wires and denso plugs...

10-10-2001, 05:36 PM
Ok my car has like 54,000 miles on it..it is a 98.  It still has the factory wires and plugs.  I'm going to be installing the denso plugs and magnecore wires.

Is it reasonable to get a 5hp increase from what I already have?

Probably. It's optimal to get that much power from dope wires and plugs. So, yeah... 5 ponies sounds just about right.

I had a pretty brainy friend of mine say that Nology's were crap...he even had some electric physics to back it up, but I don't remember what he said.  Anyway...I trust him and that's his opinion.  He could be wrong...but he very rarely is.  I say stick with the Magnecores.

I'd go with Magnecore wires, but any aftermarket wires are an improvement over factory wires with 54,000 miles on em.

Now someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you don't actually gain any horsepower from plugs and wires. It just gives back horsepower lost from older plugs and wires. So they will give you some hp gain, krunko. But if you replace the wires in a BRAND new car with aftermarket ones, you won't see any hp gain. It may idle smoother and get better cleaner sparks, but it won't actually create any new horsepower the engine didn't already have.
If that's not true someone please correct me, im pretty sure about that.

Bah.  Youre all wrong.  Denso iridium plugs are the only plug manufacturers to claim a horsepower gain, and back it up with numerous dyno charts.
Now... changeing old stock crap wires and plugs with new stock crap wires and plugs will net you all the horse power you lost with bad parts.
But swapping new stock crap wires for 8 mil magnecores will theoretically let more electricity to the plugs, making a better spark, igniting more fuel for more power.  I think a gain of 1 or 2 horses should be about right for larger wires...  And add those 1 or 2 to the power lost by old stock crap wires... and viola... noticable power increase.  Then the plugs that I've seen independant tests show 4 hp on a stock civic and 6.9 on a slightly modded prelude, should get about 4 or 5 extra ponies.  On top of the gain of your reclaimed power from old plugs.
