I have an S14 Zenki with an SR20DET Redtop motor. My speedometer reads incorrectly. I have tried both S13 & S14 speedometer and I still get incorrect readings. When I installed an S13 MT speed sensor my speedo read 2X fast. When I installed an S14 MT my speedo reads 2X slow. Does anyone know what could be wrong? My car was originally an automatic car, could this be one reason? In doing some research I came accross a forum that mentioned that I needed an Z32 speed sensor since the Z32 comes with coilpacks and my chassis originally came with an Distributur. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

I can't say exactly what the problem would be, I just know as for myself when i installed the s15 sr, the speedometer worked off the abs sensor instead of a speed sensor in the tranny. i simply bought a dakota digital sgi-5 speed signal converter, they're about $80 and really easy to install and will convert just about any speed signal. they have a up and down button that controls your speedometer so you can also adjust your speedometer if you have bigger tires and also multiple different outputs that multiply the signal speed.

I assume you have the S14 USDM FSM (Even with the SR swap, this portion is mainly unchanged from the chassis). So what it sounds like is a wiring problem. S13 and S14 speedometers? That doesn't sound right in my mind. Are you doing a complete gauge cluster swap and redoing all the wiring in the gauge cluster harness to match them up? I'm just confused. :/

Ok so since your car was originally a automatic and the FSM is notorious for having incorrect wiring pin placement make sure you trace the wires from the Speedometer itself, through the fuse-box, through the front of the car, to the super-junction, to finally the gauge itself.

Page EL-76 for the speedo wiring pins/colors.

Turn to pages EL-194 through EL-202.

Remember that the speedometer sensor itself has power and ground to the speedometer gauge, and one wire from there heads towards the ECU. So for the gauge 2 wires in, 1 wire to the ECU, and 1 common ground.

I would most likely look towards the lower engine harness from the tranny to the fusebox. I would almost bet someone wired in the wrong wire.
