Got a derale fan controller for my dual fan, the one with the probe through the radiator. But now i really don't like the idea of it going through the radiator. So my question is can i just cut the probe off and connect that two wires to the stock coolant sensor on the sr just like you would on a dif controller? Will it affect anything other than it just a sucky unit comparing to the dif, but no money to spend on the dif right now?

That's a thermoswitch/thermostat the stock one is completely different and does not do the same thing that switch does.

It's ok just throw it through the fins of the radiator. As long as you're not a complete idiot you wont damage the radiator and it will still cool the same.

promise.

yup i use one of those probe type sensors... the only thing is tht the clip that is supposed to hold it tight sucks balls, it was loose as hell.. so i glued it on. it's fine.

I know it's different but like the dif controller, you see how it is hook up to the stock coolant sensor in this thread: DIF Dual Fan Controller Install on S13 S14 240SX (http://www.frsport.com/DIF-Dual-Fan-Controller-Install-on-S13-S14-240SX_t_22.html) So im wondering if i can just cut off the probe and wire it up to the stock coolant sensor as well. Some ppl say it is more accurate that way though. Just don't know how it would read if i hook it up to there.

He's right ^^^^^ I use/used the same setup your planning on using and IMO it's best to just do as the directions say. If done CORRECTLY your cooling fans should be just as good as stock if not better since its an adjustable fan controller. Good Luck

Well the reason i asked this is because i been running that setup (probe through radiator) for like 6 months already. But for some reason the whole adjustable unit is blowing up on me. I don't know why. The fuse on one for the fan wire did not pop but the fan won't kick on anymore. I don't know why. I just got another unit, the same one, and installed it today and the same thing happens. It was messed up again. The fan won't kick on even if i set the adjustable knob all the way down.

Damn dude.. I've been there. Well it can only be 2 things.. Either the Probe or the little Controller box. Have you tried hitting the Probe itself with a lighter to see if they come on then..?

See im thinking it is the controller box again. Cause like i said i been through two controllers already. The first one went out after 6 months then i just put in another one today and the fan didn't kick on after driving awhile. So im assuming it is the box again since that's what happen to the first one. But then iono what is causing the box to go out

I guess sometimes those just fry.. I cant explain why my controller boxes went out and I think thats the part that frustrates me the most. In any case try hitting it with a lighter and at least that will let you know for sure if its the box or the probe. Good Luck

all the "probe" is, is a normally open switch. just pop the two wires off of it and bridge them with a piece of wire. if the fans turn on, its the probe, if not, the problem is elsewhere

Ok, just tried that today and nothing happen. I even turn the adjustable knob all the way down.

Also tried this, what i did was exposing the two wires connecting to the probe and bridge them and nothing happens. So iono what's going on. Is there a temporary way that i can connect the fan for now until i can invest in a Dif Dual Controller? I don't want to go through another one of this unit since i just got a new one and it still messes up. I was thinking bout running both the fan str8 from the battery +terminal with a 25amp fuse on both wires to the fan and just pull out the fuse when i turn off the car. How does that sound?

well since the controller is obviously broken, yes... you can run them off the battery. 25a fuse is fine (no need to fuse the ground) just make sure you use 10g copper... on my first swap back in the day i did this and ran a switch leg to the cabin too.
