don't hold back! if you think they suck, tell me! but just tell me what makes it suck. haha. i figured i should make a serious attempt at painting, seeing as how i do attend an art school. lmao. i am kinda disappointed on the flatness of them all really, i still haven't been able to nail down the whole depth deal. AND i think they look a like a little kid painted 'em sometimes. dunno why. lol, oh well. never hurts to try :naw:
PS forgive my shittyass scans, the illustration board is a lil thicker than normal paper so my scanner didn't close all the way, lol. i was also a little bit drunk at the time of my painting. :bite:

You already found your problems. Flat and juvenile looking.

As long as you are 12, or going to art school for photography, then everything is fine.

you need to work on your details more

spend more time on your paintings considering the style you're going for

if you don't like taking weeks to paint something then you should consider a different style

here's one of mine

yeah, i painted them all under 30 minutes each. by style, do you mean the kind of subjects i painted? landscapes, right?? that is a strange looking piece there. don't get me wrong, it is nice. it makes me feel all wavy. lol. what materials did you use?

OH yeah, i should have mentioned, i'm going to an art HIGH school. not a college. hah. and after graduation(1 week! :-D ) i am heading straight into the military, lol.

EDIT: damn, i worded the first part all retarded. lol my bad.

your painting's style is along the lines of realism so you as an artist want to portray that the most

otherwise you should consider abstract painting if you can only do a painting for 30 minutes

i've worked on art pieces for months and some for 15 minutes

it all depends on the style you're going for and how capable you are of executing it

First picture, only problems I see are try adding more layers of grass, from big to small.

On the last pic paint your gray trees a little darker... They're too bright, the trees behind them try adding a little shading to where your grey trees end.

I've been in drawing and cartooning since I was 10, took some painting classes as well.

dude, not to be mean or anything, but you go to art school and you still draw like this? What you need is not art school, you need experience. Trying drawing as much as possible. use pencil and draw, or practice drawing details and depth and proportions. dont ever waste your money on art school. I learned it the hard way after paying 2 g's and still didnt learn shit. you can always find out different techniques and be unique without the help of an art school.

I started drawing since I was 11. Im 22 now so I had 11 years of experience. AND IM STILL NOT GOOD!!! haha.

good luck!

haha. Some people have talent to draw and others do not. its that simple. Depending on how long you have been going to school for art and what not, we cannot tell if you are good or not.

I would work on depth perception seeing as how everything looks flat and bland. Also look into shadows and light as they can help provide depth in your pictures.

If you are beginning, I would say you can improve. If youre about to graduate, I say you didnt pay attention in class.

Its not hard but its not easy also, just have good depth perception. Any crappy drawing could look good if it pops out, I don't know the word. But 3D type stuff.

HMMMM no wonder those looked familiar. :D LOL J/K but I think I may have indeed seen those. Be very careful some of the most famed Graffiti artists around who actually have real artistic talent got busted down here recently.

Your paintings do show talent though sb253. Keep it.

OP if your trying to do landscapes you do need to work a lot more on them. Thatguy was right about them looking juvenile.

Art is a tough deal just like Music. If you are really into it do it. If you are looking for a career? Well CG is probably your best bet.

thanks guys. Hell, I dont even put them up. The ones I havent given to friends just sit in stack against the wall. My buddy wanted something fun to put up and I have an extra canvas sitting here so I came up with this 3 color stencil and Ill handpaint the black. He can choose the colors,

you should post those in the graffiti art thread.

And to the op, I am going to have to go with everyone else and say you should stick with it, it does look flat and very noob spec, but if you have fun doing it keep at it.
