Hey Guys,

Had a quick question regarding electric fan wiring, and inline fuses. I just recently installed some FAL dual electric fans, and for some reason my 30A inline fuse keeps popping. I wired them to a 30A bosch relay, to trigger w/ ignition (IGN source in engine bay fuse box). The fans came with the smallest blade style in line fuse. I feel silll asking this question since I've done numerous fan installs in the past, setup identical to what I have now, without any problems. At first I thought it had something to do w/ my ignition source @ the relay so I tried a couple different locations, still with no fix. Maybe the fans themselves are defective? Is there a more common and easier way of setting up the fans for ignition? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

that kept happening to me. found out that the fuse didnt have the umph to load the fans. then i also used a relay and had the hassle of fliping a switch. that is when i hooked it inside the chassis to the fuse box for my defogger. now i hooked mine up directly to the fuse box under the hood. i cant remeber exactly what they are called but ill try to let you know from this pic.http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt265/MannylovesLian/DSC01773.jpg?t=1243878124
the third row and the last three on the bottom. the rectangle ones. i hooked one fan to the one on the bottom and the other fan to the second.
works like a charm. i hope this helps you out. nothing worst than an overheating SR.

oh i for got to say that when i routed them here i used a greedy multi switching system.

They probably pull more amperage at start-up than 30...try a 40-amp, see if it fixes the problem.

It'll still be safe, assuming you used wire of the appropriate gauge.

If that's the fix...upgrade the relays...OR, use 2 relays to split the load. Double up[ on the wires and all. It might fix the issue for good, AND will add redundancy (in case one dies, you'll still have a working fan).

I use 4 relays total for my Altima fans.

are u using 1 fuse and 1 relay for both fans? b/c u should be using 1 relay per fan and 1 fuse per fan, i have a 10amp fuse going to my fan, directly from the battery, and the relay is wired for a ground trigger from Greddy MSS and i have never had an issue with the fuse or relay.

i had same problem so i just went ahead and put in a switch and turn the fans on after start up. Had no problems since.
