Need to replace my clutch soon and i've been doing some digging..
I remember the "white bunny special" clutch from Freshalloy with the D21 hardbody flywheel and 280zx turbo/2+2 clutch..
Then I read about someone else using a XTD RB20DET chromoly flywheel with a 350z clutch.
I'm looking for some opinions and experience with each setups. I'm planning on using an oem/replacement clutch.
I believe the 280zx clutch is 240mm
and the 350z clutch is 250mm
which would you go with?
also, want to make sure i'm clear on this..
I will need a KA24DE pilot bushing and throwout bearing for use with the above setups? Also, might be a stupid question but i want to be clear, clutch and pressure plates must be matching right?

I know this isnt exacly in response to your question.
But if you want another OEM upgrade.
From My Nissan MotorSport Catalog
This is listed for the S14
The NISMO 225mm clutch cover is rated for 750kg (OE is 550kg) The race clutch disc (9/6-E3040) is a soild-hub bronze button unit desgned for competition use.
The Cenerforce clutch cover uses a series of counterweights to increase (up to 90%) the clamping force as the RPM rise. Requires OEM T/O bearing (30502-45P00)
30210-RS600 Nismo Clutch Cover
30100-RN225 Nismo Disk

I have the D21 setup, think Phlip does aswell
240mm surface
pilot bushing doesn't change
D21 pressure plate (has more bolts aswell than the KA one)
will need to trim the shield or toss it
feel is OEM
I wish I had gotten a lighter flywheel

thanks for the heads up about the pressure plate. so the rule of thumb is the pressure plate must match the flywheel?
i've heard D21 flywheel is heavier than the KA flywheel..
this is one reason im leaning towards the z33 clutch and rb20 flywheel combo, XTD makes an 11.5lb chromoly flywheel..
so, just to make sure before I buy the parts, i'm going to need:
-KA24DE pilot bushing and throwout bearing
-Z33 Clutch and pressure plate
-RB20DET flywheel
right?

I am using a RB20 Exedy chromoly flywheel combined with a 350z ACT heavy duty clutch with a 350z throwout bearing.
The 350z throwout bearing is quite bigger than the KA24DE throwout bearing.

feel is OEM
lol, compared to what, a Mustang GT? :p
A friend of mine used the White Bunny setup. The pedal was quite a bit stiffer than stock. It felt similar to an Exedy Stage 2.

True that! If you decide on the White Bunny setup instead of the 350Z/RB20 setup, get the D21 flywheel lightened a bit at a machine shop.

Compare to a KADE oem setup which is what I had before

Could be an issue of new/old/brand master and slave cylinders.
I left the master the car came with
and bought a cheap brand slave
pedal was pretty soft (SS line and no damper box aswell)

Think Fidanza (not too sure) offers a light flywheel for the D21 set up
it'll would have to be a machine shop that can balance it aswell

any comments on the setup? how do you like the lightweight flywheel? how much power does your car have, ever noticed slipping? and what pilot bushing are you using?

This sounds kind of cool, but at the same time it seems like it would be unnecessarily complicated, heavier, and more expensive. Is there any noticeable performance gain, over a decent KA flywheel/clutch setup?

seems like there would be, as you are increasing the clutch's surface area about an inch... I think the setup would probably be lighter than a stock clutch setup because of the chomoly flywheel...but i lack first hand experience...
sunnys14 care to comment?

Roughly, what would this all cost versus just buying like an Exedy Stage 2 or something of that likeness? Seems like a nuisance to gather all the mixed parts.

$250 for an exedy oem z33 clutch/pressure plate/throw out bearing
$200 for a XTD RB20DET chromoly flywheel
and a few bucks for a pilot bushing, which i'm still unsure of what kind to get (i'm thinking for KA)...
so around $460ish for a clutch with 250mm of grip that is designed to hold about 300HP plus a 11.5 lb. flywheel..
vs.
exedy stage 2 which costs about $430... it will probably handle more power, but i'm not planning on breaking 300hp with my setup, plus a 3 puck isn't exactly preferable for a daily driver (debatable) plus the price of replacing/resurfacing the stock flywheel with a reduced surface area of 225mm..
I think the 350z/rb20 clutch flywheel combo sounds promising as far as bang for the buck.. but i'd like to hear more opinions and clarify exactly what parts im going to need before i bite the bullet.

Thats all you need bro. The only 350z parts u need are the pressure plate, clutch disk and throw out bearing.
I'm running an 350z ACT heavy duty clutch which is rated 450+ ftlbs tq. A tad stiffer than stock pedal feel, but holds power like a 6 puck clutch!
