okay so i am in the market for a lsd...one of my buddies has a nismo 2 way and i think that it is to much for a street car...i just dont like the clucking sound it makes when you turn...it sounds like something is horribly wrong with the car for a daily driver...
so i was wonder if the 1.5 way lsd does the same thing? if it does then im just going to get a vlsd...
what are your guys suggestions on what kind of lsd i should get... i will be using the car for drag and TRYING to drift...

oh no not again. theres a thread for this already. pros and cons.
but to add to the thread.
it depends what your car is gonna be used for. alot of people will say 2 way since its gangsta. 1.5 easy to control for drift. some say welded.
depends on your budget.
which brand do you want?
and yes nismo is the quietest around from what i have been told.

Dood, honestly under acceleration all the 1way,1.5way,2way lsd's will make noise. The design is to make the units work under load...thus causing the clutch type lsd to make noise during operation from either internal mechanism or friction disc slippage/grip.
It won't really matter what manufacture or cam angle you choose, they all will make noise.
Just keep in mind that 1.5 way compared to a 2 way LSD will have slightly less lock up during deceleration.

Nismo is too loud? Nismo's are the quietest diffs I've heard.

My Kaaz 1.5 way still makes noise. Get a 1.5 or 2 way and just deal with the noise like the rest of us.

me kaaz 1.5 way makes a ton of noise, people think your car is broke, i love it for drifting, but they are really hard to drift cuz they slip more than 2 ways do under decel, if your driftin and drag get the nismo 2 way will be much better and just deal with the noise you will get used to it.

I really need to ride in a car with a Kaaz or Nismo LSD because Ive never heard this noise everyone is talking about. Does someone have a sound clip?????
But back on subject, everyone has their own personal opinions on what is "good" for street and what is "good" for track. I think it really depends on how you like to drive. I think the 1.5 will do just fine for most 240 owners.

I have an OS Giken 1.5 way. It actually is the quietest diff on the market. Most of the time I'm driving around it is just like an open diff, but it provides 100% lock up under acceleration. I've got to change the fluid in it and it should get rid of the pings and clunks I get in parking lots, haha.
I can say unlike my Nismo 2-way the OS Giken 1.5 way is much less scary to drive in high speed corners when its wet out. The 1.5 way works just as well for drifting but is 100% better for any sort of grip driving you can do.

these guys......
That 1.5 will try and act like a open when you let off. so if you are sideways or had gotten a little loose on the drag strip, it has a tendency to snap back like a FWD car. That can be accident causeing for newer drivers.
VLSD is nice. I drove one for a year. worked great. takes a second longer to lock after initiation for drift, but was sooooooo good for autocross and launched good.
really, anything is a step up and you will be happy. VLSD's can be sold for what they are bought for, so maybe run that for a few months and decide if you want something even more??

If you don't like the clunking noise while turning get a 1 way. They really only lock on decel and the noise is bearable. But if you really only dd your car get a vlsd. They are quite and they lock but just takes alittle more for them to lock up compared to the 2 way or 1.5way. But a brief description of what the diffs are supposed to do:
1 way= lock up on decel easily and little effort on accel
1.5 way= lock up on accel easily and litte on decel
2 way= lock up all around

I've never really had any problems drifting with my 1.5 way. It's just something you have to get used to and adapt your driving style to.

An LSD is one of the things that you have to take the good with the bad....it's going to make noise but think of what you are getting for that noise. My Nismo 1.5 way is much louder than my roommate's R32 GTR diff with added plates. Both S14's, both SR.
I've never really had any problems drifting with my 1.5 way. It's just something you have to get used to and adapt your driving style to.
Original/high-res of your sig?

yeah i thought about that you gotta take the bad with the good...just wondering is the tomei louder then the nismo??? and he has had it for like 3 yrs. still in package in his room...is it still good?

tomei is louder than a nismo. i heard that it's similar to kaaz unit.
there's no expire sir. if never used that's mean it's brand new in the box.

tomei 2way trax is one of the best lsd out there but i suggest you to do research and see what's fit to your style don't just buy it because it's a good deal.

there is something called "friction modifier".....

you're right. friction modifier will provide smooth operation and reduce the noise.
just to share to OP or someone that didn't know that there's alreday friction modifier in kaaz, tomei and cusco lsd oil. that's why they are recommed and aren't cheap.
or you can get a non syntethic gear oil along with a friction modifier.

what are you going to use it for? anyway, they're all gonna clunk and if you're worried about people laughing at your pride and joy.. then something is wrong.
2way and 1.5 lsd are both good for drifting unless that's not what you're gonna use it for. 1.5 just doesn't really lock up during deceleration and 2way does, might have to pull the e-brake more often especially if you're trying to decelerate.
