From Hiro Inada...

Hello,

Thank you for participating in May 3rd Dai's Driving Academy. We were happy to hear positive comments from many participants. And now, we would like to make this event happen more often, hopefully on monthly basis at the same location, El Toro. Though City of Irvine is quite risk conscious, El Toro has a big advantage of its space, as long as we can use same area as in the past event.

Next one we arranged is June 20(SAT), and we are going to add intermediate courses for both drift and grip, shorter and easier than advanced ones, particularly with many turns for grip.

Also we are working to improve several points; food service, tire service, and also planning to invite more JDM gear vendors. Keep you updated when our conclusion comes up on these issues.

Lastly, we would like to ask $80 for entry fee for either drift or grip driving, but we'll include limited version of JDM OPTION T-shirt, which we parepare exclusively for this event, only for early registration by end May.

Please take a look of attached files, and send us back your registration form by e-mail or by fax by end of May.

Thank you again and hope to see you on June 20.

Regards,

Hiro Inada

Course is pretty rough on tires. I'd bring an extra set just in case.

NEED MORE GRIP DRIVERS! :) Barely any were out there. I got so many runs my oil started overheating! Also instruction is provided which will help tremendously, whatever you skill level is!

All staff

Please find latest information on this event as per attached.

At this moment, we have 55 registered drivers, and may go up to over 60 drivers, including spot registration.
Among these 55,

Alls staffs are requested to be at El Toro at 6:30AM in order to start the event on time.
This time, entrance has changed at the end of MARINE WAY. Should turn to the right, and get in the runway behind the baloon place. Please do not use Marine gate which we used before.

Registration tent will be set at the end of entrance way after turning right at the end of MARINE WAY. Not in paddock/parking area as before. This is to secure safety and insurance for all who attend the event, as well as to avoid any possible abuse of our event by attendents.
We''ll prepare all the paperwork there, and ask all guests to sign on the waiver and give wrist bands.
We prepared several colors for each group of people, drift driver, grip driver, non-driver, vendor and staff.

And all course starters should check each drivers' wristband color before let them start.

We prepare food service this time. TACOS shop will provide free meal for all staffs and media, but no drinks. So, please bring drinks or you can purchase at TACO shop.
Lastly, we provide one limited version of JDM OTPION T-shirt which we prepare exclusively for this event. Please pick up at the registration tent when you sign for waiver.

We need to have a quick meeting in the morning before we start the event.

By the way, we got great raffle prizes from support vendors, and we would like to make this raffle open to all of our staffs as well, not only for guests. So. please join in it.

It was nice to have such a short wait for the long course, medium length 2nd gear course took a while, and what was up with people understeering for 5 min.+ on the skidpad courses??? I rolled up to finish off tires/practice tips from the coaches, only to wait FOREVER for some :ghey:fools to finish doing about 30 passes each; with no concern for the long line of people waiting. If you're gonna do that, at least don't unda-unda the whole run :bash:!

Hiro did a good job as usual with even more courses and drivers to keep tabs on, and a limited staff. The August 1 event should be interesting, when Ross unveils Dai's new sr20 Mango.

the sweeper is sooooo big there's plenty of room to pull it off. The SR powered cars were having fun on the sweeper. but the Brave KA's were still trying to put it down . My buddy didn't even bother with the switch backs in the begining of the high speed course . he just bombed the sweeper in fourth gear around 90+MPH to clear it! Shit was fun !!

dood, I'm scared to skip the begging and bomb it at 90 heh :keke:

for all you DOHC KA guys i was drifting the whole course in 2nd, and then doing the whole sweeper at around 75mph like mid 3rd gear, like without straightening out.

Ross Petty told me to try to skip the first corner, just to get into 3rd gear, and just try to take the whole course in 3rd. i cant wait till next time to try that.

dood, I'm scared to skip the begging and bomb it at 90 heh :keke:

for all you DOHC KA guys i was drifting the whole course in 2nd, and then doing the whole sweeper at around 75mph like mid 3rd gear, like without straightening out.:duh:

In my KA DOHC, I skipped the whole first section and my entry speed for sweeper was about 87mph. But I used the 949Racing race car(140hp, no powersteering) for the driver search, IMHO its impossible to link the whole course with the stock KA on 3rd gear manji.

I'd like to say Thanks again to 949Racing for all the support.

i was able to do 100+mph entry top of 4th gear, but no footy :( shit was scary at first to clutch kick at that speed..but somehow my balls grew and I did it.. the one footy I have was my 1st time doing 100mph entry..is when I had to slow down and stop because Croan stalled out at the sweeper.. drifting at that speed feels like the car will flip.. damn i need more power... I want to up my boost, but i don have enough fuel .. I tried 8psi thaday and it was bogging my motor, so i urned it down to 6psi and itwas barely okay... :( Time for bigger injectors and a standalone...

Define stock. lol. I only have Headers and intake and I was able to link the last Dai's academy layout all in 3rd gear. That was so much fun.

100% stock 220K mile engine, no intake, no header, stock exhaust with cat and everything, full interior and back seat with spare tire unremoved in trunk.

Just a welded diff and taiwanese coilover. Trust me its hard, I am not too bad at handling underpowered car I think you know that, haha! I could link the whole course with the 140hp miata tho, sometimes its about the weight and setup.

And my definition of linking realy means 0 understeer, not even a bit of it, always from lock to lock transition, or almost.

Gotcha. In a miata that is freakin pretty tough. I had one myself. You are a true gangsta.

Its harder in a stock ka 240( like the one Charles just explained) than a 140hp miata. Trust me. A 140hp miata can do alot..

Awesome event, awesome pic's.

Thanks for the shot's Jason.

Big track was so much fun, 2,3,4th shifting was sweet.

But it spoils you. You can run the small course all day on one pair of tires. Then i got to the big track 3-4th plus big smoke = bye bye rubber =( lol

Think i'm just gonna stick with roadracing, way cheaper.....so when the next one lol

I think i'm going to host a event at HTM soon, never ran it before and heard it's the shiz so i'll keep u guys posted =)

I can completely relate... stock exhaust, cat, full interior, scissor jack (i forgot to remove) but I put a JWT filter. I couldn't get my car over 90 mph... i think i was at 88-91 mph at the most. If I had more runway, and shift up to 5th i probably would've made it... Although I was hanging on a thin line since my front tires were completely shot showing cords already which should've made me understeer alot...

Fun times!

You were looking good out there Paul2x! If you do host an event at HTM, can I come?

In case you haven't read.

from Hiro Inada, JDMOption.com

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you for your participation in this event, and we again apologize for no show of GoGo Daijiro Inada this time due to his unexpected happening. He is sure to attend the next event on Aug.1, at the same location.

It was a great turn-out over 130 drivers, and almost same number of accompanied guests, which made its total number of attendance over 300 people, including staff and coaches. Moreover, it was the best driving condition with no sunshine, no rain. Seven vendor booths were also available to ask any questions on their products.

All 60 drift drivers enjoyed beginners’ courses, an intermediate and a high speed entry and big turn advanced courses. And 30 grip beginner drivers received seated lecture on the basic technique and information about sports driving by Hiro Sumida, professional driver & coach, and started their practice at the grip beginners’ course. Then they joined to the advanced high-speed grip course. We found it’s necessary to prepare one more advanced grip course for the next time, since there happened a slightly long waiting time over 20 minutes. However, we still hope all grip drivers got enough run time in one whole day.

Since this event was sanctioned by D1 UNDERGROUND, Ross Petty, Drifting Main Instructor, D1/Formula D Pro Driver, selected 3 drift drivers who could directly entry into the D1 driver search. 3 drivers are Charlie Ng, Nick Hogan, and Jeffrey Guillotte. Congratulations!!!

There were 3 big raffle prizes; A SET OF SWIFT COILOVER SPRINGS, GREDDY INTELLIGENT INFORMETER TOUCH, and BLITZ i-BURNER ILLUSION, all $400 value items. All products including ENEOS oil were given to winners, regardless of their presence, and apparels and accessories were chosen to only who were present at the drawing.

Thank you again for your participation in this event, and we hope your appearance in our DAI’S DRIVING ACADEMY 3 on Aug. 1, 2009 at the same location, Ex-USMAC Air Station at El Toro, Irvine. GoGo will be sure to be present in the next one, hopefully with his new? machine, 73 CELICA with SR20DET, tuned by GARAGE BOSO.

Besides all participants and guests, without support and help from following companies and individuals, this event could not have been successful. We appreciate great assistance from Shogun Style Performance, Garage Boso, Hiro Sumida, SR MotorCars, H & D Racing, Adam Nguyen from OC Porsche Driving Club, Adams Motorsports Park, Discount Tire Centers-Long Beach and Lake Forest, El Ojo de Agua(Thank you for great tacos!!), Swift Springs USA, Greddy Performance Products, Blitz Performance Sales, Nippon Oil USA(ENEOS), Tomei Powered, Car Studio(D-Max), Hitachi Automobile Products (TOKICO), Sun Automobile USA, Vertex USA, 5Zgien USA, Nukabe Automotive(CUSCO), and INGS USA.
