Timing advancement *searched*

I posted a little while back about how my car stutters when i punch the gas pedal, and someone said to check my timing. And i was searching on old posts and saw that a couple of you had advanced the timing by 3 degrees or so. My question now is how do you advance the timing, what is it gonna do for me, and ... just gimme any other comments you have. Thanks a lot.

mine does the same thing... at first it seemed like adding timing helped it but now its doing it again and changing the timing doesn't help...
if you ever figure out why its stuttering when you give it gas, please tell me... I'm still trying to figure it out.

This may just be a shot in the dark, but check out your spark plugs and plug wires. If they're old, swap 'em.

i have brand new denso iridium plugs... nology wires are coming soon. ill let you know if they help

my car got a new coil, rotor, dist. cap, plug wires, and plugs. didn't change a thing. new fuel filter too.

What grade fuel are you running? I haven't experienced this in my 240 but an Integra i had did the same thing when i ran low octane fuel in it. But if i ran 93 octane it wouldn't do it. So if your running the cheaper stuff it's a possibility it could be causing it. Try filling your tank with 93 octane and running a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through it. Solved it in my Honda.

precise ignition timing is essential for fuel economy and performance in any spark ignited engine.

I've tried higher octane. I've tried retarding and advancing the timing, mine still does it. couple people said its the fuel pump, so I'm thinking of upgrading that soon.

Advancing the timing causes the spark plug to ignite the air fuel mixture sooner in the piston stroke, allowing for a more complete burn of the air/fuel mix. = more power=hotter burn=more prone to detonation=must run premium 91+ octane fuel.
