I think it's because if you didn't have that it would be a square flange which would make it incompatible with most test pipes/converters, so I believe it's there for easy bolt on.

He's right. The last thing you'll need to worry about will be fit and finish. Also, shipping is essentially $100 wherever it goes. Been getting a lot of those questions, so I might as well answer here.

i would love to hear what this would sound like on my ka-t.... are you interested in any trades? perhaps the exhaust off my car which is an invidia with a 3" test pipe welded on. just too loud for my taste and in the market for a cat to replace it but this looks sex.
i also got a greddy profec b II, apexi turbo timer, s-afc, nismo fpr etc. i am lacking in the cash department so just seeing if you might be interested. i may be able to scounge up some change though :p

^^ Shipping will be at most $100 if that's what's concerning you. Any quality exhaust goes for that much alone, let alone something like this.
