I just finished up installing it. I bought a used power antenna off ebay the other week, and it came in today. I thought it would be a piece of cake. I thought I could just pull back the carpet in the hatch, unskrew the antenna, pull out the old antenna and put the new one in. As usually, nothing goes as easy as you plan. I had a h ell of a time trying to get the carpet pulled back, and I thought I would never get the top of the antenna off. When I looked at the new power antenna, I noticed alot of the paint on the top section has been peeled off, so I had to repaint it. Then when I finally got the carpet back, there was a piece of metal blocking all view of the antenna. But, once I got it out, swapping it was easy. Then I hooked up the harnesses and tried it out. And of course, it doesn't work. I start getting fustrated cause I have no idea why its not working. I start checking fuses and all are fine. Then I decide to go to the source and pull out my cd player and look behind it. I had left off that wire when I hooked it up cause at the time the antenna wasn't working and I didn't feel like going to the trouble of hooking it up. So I hooked it up and it works now. I thought it was gonna take like half an hour tops. It took me almost two and a half hours. Oh well...

if you just want to do the mast, thats an easy job. You just have to unscrew the ring on the outside of your car. If I'm not mistaken there's a FAQ about installing/changing the mast in www.240sx.org/faq I changed the mast on mine with info from there in no time. But it turned out that my motor was the problem and not the mast :/ So I still have an antenna that's permently 'up'.

My power antennae always had a weird problem. I would turn on my headunit, and the antenna would go up, and once it was fully up, the motor would make a 15second grinding noise and then stop. Antennae has no problems retracting...

I was thinking about replacing the antenna so a FAQ would be very helpful.

On a side note, how easy is it to install a switch that would prevent the antenna from extending when i turn on the headunit but dont wanna use the radio? Anyone wanna write up an FAQ on that?

Putting a kill switch on the power antenna is easy as pie. I've done it, but I did for reason of my amplifiers, not the antenna. Simply find the wire, and splice in a switch. :D If you have an aftermarket headunit, take it out...look for the BLUE wire coming outa the unit, splice it....extend the wires to desired length, and install the switch. If you have a stock headunit...hit up one of the main links here on zilvia and look for the wiring diagram, it will tell you what lead is going to the power antenna.

ok, I got a few seconds, Ill write the FAQ. Ill write it here and lemme know how she sound

1990 Fasback, Power Antenna Removal.

First, on the antenna its self, at the base where the mast meats the sheet metal, there is a "ring" around the base of the antenna mast. Continiously turn this counter-clockwise. It make take quite a few revolutions, but I asure you you are making a difference.

After the mast feels free, she should be ready to come out. When I removed mine, the track cord was broken, so I am not sure if your track cord will come right out. If she doesnt, just cut that bitch OJ style. And your on the way.

Now, from the trunk.

Removed carpet shroud and carpet too allow movent within left quater-panel. This includes removinig the plastic cover where your left rear speaker is. Now, directly below where the antenna sits, is all metal with four bolts. Only two bolts in hold the motor in place. Unscrew these bolts which sit diagonally from one another, beleive it is a 10MM socket, dont quote me I did this a week ago. The assembly should be realatively loose now. There is one wire holding the antenna inplace, and this is a simple pull to remove wire. After removing that wire, find yoru own special way to finagle the assembly out. And your all done and ****.

This FAQ is simple for a reason, I removed this with no FAQ and no help, and I am an idiot. So there we be... its all done.

Nope, not that vague. Thats pretty much it. I still don't see how you got your carpet pulled back so easy. I was fighting with mine for about half an hour, and broke about 2 of the little tabs that you push in the carpet to hold it in.

See I did the same thing but mine still won't work. When you are talking about the wire from your cd player you are tlaking about the antenna end that plugs right into the dc player right? Is there some other wire that you have to hook up for the damn thing to work. I also got mine off ebay. Installed it with no prob (I have a coupe) but the damn thing will not go budge! Is there fuses for these?
