I was messin around fixing the harness for my coolant temp sensor and this hose (see attached pic) became disconnected...it's cracked :( Anyways, I'm obviously going to replace it, just curious what it's function was.

Btw, that's GRANT'S car...I just used one of his pics because his hose is red and VERY easy to see.:D ...hope you don't mind man.

PCV valve hose. opens when the oil pressure in the head is high enough. Supposedly needs a vacuum line to open up, that's why it's connected to your intake, but since many people put air filters on or oil catch tanks, and still have their cars running it's not that important i guess.

Replacing it is your best and cheapest way. Breather filter is about $15, catch tank runs around $30-$40 iirc

No. The PCV valve is under the intake manifold. That hose just allows for ventilation of the valvetrain area. That hose isn't as important as the other one that connects to the intake tube, and you can just plug it with a breather filter. Replacement hoses are very cheap, and considering the age. I'd recommend getting a Nissan hose, and if you don't, make sure you transfer the little wire filter from inside the old hose to the new one.

So i messed up the name. big deal. i said what it does though, and if he would be doing something to it, he'll be doing it to the cracked hose, not to the PCV valve location of which he'll be finding in the book.

And? I was just making sure accurate information was passed. I didn't poke fun at you or anything. Please don't take my correction personally.
