Hey everybody so i have a s13 that i just got, and whenever the clutch pedal is out you can hear a horrible grinding noise like kind of a low pitch scraping and when you had the clutch down it would totally stop. But only after making a bit of a spin down noise a few people had told me that it was my throw out bearing. So i got a clutch kit and ripped the transmission out to find the bearing and clutch were not really that badly worn. But after i got the tranny out and was looking at it i noticed the imput shaft has alot of shaveings on it, so i grabed it to wipe them off and it had masssive shaft play, so i spun the shaft and could hear a grinding noise. is this grinding noise becuase of the lack of any gear oil and the noise is infact from the bearing, or is my tranny the cuase of the awful scrapeing noise? i know its hard to judge from never hearing it bu do you think its worth it to replace the tranny and not have my car running while i look for another tranny in my area, so should i just slap that bitch back in with the new clutch and drive it?

If you bought a new clutch just wait find a used tranny at a pic your parts for like 75-100 bucks then slap your new clutch kit into that fill with some decent gear oil (shit smells horrid BTW) and sit back shift and enjoy haha =]

Changed the clutch bearing and throw out bearing. Is the input shaft for the transmission scratched or were the shavings from something else?

well i changed the gear oil about 2 weeks ago (and yea that shit smells pretty bad lol) and on the magnet plug was liek an inch and a half of steel shavings, seemed a little excessive to me, and evin when i drained it to drop it it had created about another half inch of shaveings, and its not grinding while shifting... but anyway, the bell houseing on the inside was pretty wet with gear oil, so maby it leaked out from around the input shaft?
Edit: and i didnt change the clutch yet, the car is still taken apart while i look for a tranny to buy

so i figured it out, the bearing around the input shaft was shattered and the sleeve that the tob sits on broke off and was bouncing around on the shaft
