there doesn't seem to be a recent, general, non-locked camera thread

i haven't had a decent camera in about a year, but just picked up what i think is a steal:

Canon Rebel XT
Canon 18-55
Tamron 28-200
Sigma 75-300
some huge book on the Rebel XT
charger
case
etc
immaculate, used by some ancient dude who kept asking how i got to his house so fast
$300

i'll post pics after i take some, it's almost night :(

WHAT U GAIZ ROLLIN WIT

wow thats a damn steal.

I sold my xt with the 18-55 non IS kit lens last month for 300 and thought that was a good deal.

Seems like you have some overlap in your focal range though.

the 28-200 and 75-300.

I'd sell one of them.

Right now I'm rockin a Gripped 40D, 24-70 2.8L, Tokina 11-16 2.8, 50 1.8 mk2, and a shitload of lighting equipment.

check out my flickr. it's Flickr: Daniel Pham's Photostream (http://www.flickr.com/danielpp)

Canon Rebel XTi
Canon 18-55mm
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (by far my favorite lens)
Canon 75-300mm

the XTi is a fun camera but i honestly want to get a 40D instead. it seems like every time i see pics from a 40D they look much better than anything that my XTi will ever produce. i dont really have any desire at the moment to move on to a full frame camera, i think that the 40D would suit me just fine.

Canon Rebel XTi
Canon 18-55mm non is
Canon 35-80mm f4-5.6 (kit lens that came with my old film rebel xs)
Canon 50mm f1.8
Cosina 100-300mm f5.6-6.7

If you want to get rid of the 75-300 shoot me a PM, I've been meaning to replace the cosina since it feels way too fragile for me, the focus ring shakes like a hooker with parkinson.

I don't think 24mm is that wide on a 1.5x crop sensor. :p

A700 is great. My mother in law has one. Pretty awesome cam.

ive shot with Nikon d90(85-200mm) which is probably one of the nicest cameras i have ever used. I also have a canon eos1000d(18-55mm) which is nice but i have to send it back to canon because i got the dreaded error 99 bullshit that seems to be a big problem with alot of there cameras.

ill probably just return the xs and get a d60 or or the t1i the new cannon that can shoot video ( looks pretty cool)

Daniel.

No but have you tried cleaning the lens and camera contacts with an eraser as described below?

Richard’s Notes » Blog Archive » Canon DSLR Error 99 fix (http://www.richardsnotes.org/archives/2005/04/29/50mm-lens-contact-points/)

Grant, I have the same lighting setup as you except I don't have a 580ex II.

Too baller for me.

What's everybody's thoughts on the Nikon D90?

I've always wanted the perfect camera and don't mind spending that much on it.

Just wanted to see some feedback on it.

So far, from the pictures i've seen, seems like one hell of a camera.

im really tired of using point & shoot cameras and will finally get an entry level DSLR. im looking at the Nikon D40 was wondering is it worth it to upgrade to the D60 instead. except for the higher pixel(which i dont really need) are there any difference.

SOHC FTW!
05-15-2009, 09:55 PM
One of my friends owns a D40, and another one of my friends owns a D60. IMO its the same damn thing, i don't think you see a difference in picture quality till a camera higher than those two(D90..D200 etc.). Megapixels don't mean crap unless your printing shots. I say go with the D40, and with the money you save, get a better lens.

i've had this camera for like three days and i'm already wanting a new lens. there's going to be a ridiculous party in my basement tonight and i want something for low light. everywhere i look, and in a lot of your equipment lists, i find the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 mkII. a local place has it for 99.99. should i go ahead and pick it up before the party tonight?

My wife has a D60 w/ the 18-55 kit lens.

I just recently acquired an FT2 w/ the 50mm f2 primary lens on it.

Looking to get some more lenses and junk for it.

Going to inherit my dad's FM2 when he buys a DSLR or a digital point and shoot.

Can't wait to get my hands on the FM2.

Anyone looking to sell their 35mm stuff, please contact me :)

the 50 1.8 is really fast glass. It's not that great for close quarters indoor photography. I find that it's a great lens to learn composition on being that it forces you to frame your subject correctly, but you'll find that on a crop sensor like your xt it will be zoomed a bit tight. If you have lots of room to step back and frame your shots, then go for it.

I'd still recommend you to get the lens anyways though. It's the best $80 I ever spent for my cam.

05-16-2009, 03:21 PM
yeah, i think i'm going to go ahead and buy it regardless. if nothing else i can get some practice in tonight. tomorrow i'll go downtown or something and find something worth pointing it at.

The 50 Mk2 is cheap and 99 isn't bad, BUT its for portraits because of the aperature unfortunately. So its great for shooting portraits but horrible for party's because everyone has to perfectly line up in a horizontal line across the lens or becomes really blurry.

I would get the 17-55 F2.8..... But thats a 1G, but that is the best for this sorta thing....

This is true, although you can always stop it down and it will still be faster than a zoom shooting at the same settings.

I find that shooting at 50mm on a crop sensor is more prohibitive than having to shoot at 1.8 indoors.
