in my opinion, you cant go wrong with anything that is ba sed on your family history/heritage or even something as simple as a last name works. all those sleeves you posted are really nice pieces, try to base your tattoo off of that if thats what you really want, and try to add something to it to make it your own, u dont wanna walk around knowing that u just straight up copied a picture u saw online

hope this helps somewhat

before i start im not trying to be an asshole, just cranky cuz i stayed up all night working on a midterm.

If you have to ask or get opinions, then you're most likely not ready to get a tattoo. Ive known people that have gotten inked spontaneously and they regret it because they mightve wanted it at that moment but after a few months they regret not thinking it out. For my ink i thought about them for years before I would get them because I wanted to see how I would think about it when i would mature a little more. What you like now maybe something u hate in a few years. Honestly though, you should hold off and think about what really means alot to you and discuss with an artist because they kno what would look best, not us.

Lastly, do NOT go based on cheap deals or special discounts or whatever. THIS is a real case scenario of you get what you pay for. My friend got a tattoo for 150 and it looks like shit. I dont tell her that because id feel bad but my poo would look better on her.

ALSO, if this was a thread about just ideas and u werent planning to go for another 2-3 years then please ignore this lol sorry. I just have to vent about people getting inked and getting ideas from other people.

this. you'll know you should get a tattoo when you don't have to ask for ideas.

or just get a cavalier on your arm, that'd be good too.

I agree with paragraph 2, but disagree with paragraph 3. I give tattoos for a good price, never had any complaints, may have looked like shit for the first couple years, but I'm still cheap, and opening my own tattoo shop. Who knows? Maybe I would have charged your friend 50$, and it may have turned out better. Just depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Shit I might do a full sleeve for a 12 pack of guiness.....(Not really, unless that 12 pack of guiness had a few hundred dollars underneath the bottles)

To whoever posted this (I forgot already) Get a tattoo that is meaningful to you, and you most likely won't ever end up regretting it.

I think what he meant was to go for an artist that is proven rather than an artist solely based on price. If an artist is proven and cheap, then its a win win situation :D

Logan, most decent shops with good reputation are going to charge around $100/hour or so. If you're looking for an amazing group of artists, PM me and we can talk about what style you're looking for and I'll refer you to a few people to check out.

Best recommendation I can give you is to get a clear picture of what you want, have it sketched out/photoshopped. Keep in mind that small details will sometimes not make it clearly into the artwork, and if they try to incorporate every small thing, it will bleed/fade.

Go around to different shops. Most good shops will have samples of their artwork and tattooing in books that are either on display or available if you request it. Try to pick an artist based on the "style" of tattoo he does typically. If the artist is comfortable with the piece, it will turn out a lot better. Also, try to be flexible in your design. Keep in mind that these guys have been doing tattoos for a long time, and most often will know when something won't work. Leave a lot of the positioning and detailing to them, just stay firm on the larger/more important themes.

It's a large devotion of time and money. That being said, if the tattoo means something to you, I feel it's worth it. From my experience, most artists will do a few hours on you before they're tired and you're sore, and you'll come back in a few weeks for the next session, etc, etc, etc. For a large piece like you're suggesting (if I'm understanding this right - starts on your arms and wraps onto your back?), it will probably be a month or two of visiting and working before you're done.

Let me know how it goes!

I've always wanted to get tattoos, however i cant seem to find something that i want permanently on my body.

It's best to do what you're doing: waiting until you're absolutely dead sure you know what you want. Because...on average, 2 or 3 out of 5 people who get a tattoo later get it removed. Time has a way of doing that.

That's why my next tattoo will be with Freedom-2 ink. It takes only one session to remove an F2 tatt as opposed to multiple come back sessions with traditional ink. And it's cleaner ink.

I went to a parlor here in San Diego. I asked him about F2 ink. He acted like he didn't know what it was. I told him about it. He said matter of factly that he'd never use F2 ink "because tattoos are meant to be worn forever." He came off sounding like a die hard, religous zealot.

Whatta fool. I enlightened the intellectually unsober parlor owner by telling him that just about any tattoo can be removed.

I then suggested that the F2 ink would probrably cut into his profit margin, once F2 gets rollin'. And that's because tattoo parlors make a little money doing cover ups and make overs.

If you want to use F2 ink and you're local parlor doesn't stock it, turn around and walk out of his shop and go down the street to one of his competitors. It's your money, you call the shots.

Some parlors in San Diego are now stocking it.

there's an official tattoo thread already??

don't see a need for another one.. digg through the hundreds of pages and see what suits you

there is some artist info and shops posted on that thread

you're not gonna get any better results researching local artists and going into their shops and view their portfolio

i'd rather have the person doing my tatt be the one that drew the picture as well it gives them more of an idea of what depth and perception you want

i like the looks of classic pinup tattoos and such but that stuff has no connection with me. betty paige and skulls and daggers and brass knuckles and ships and shit have nothing to do with me. but i've been reading archie comics since i was like five, so i guess i could get away with it.
also i think Jughead is a boss.

totally forgot i wanted to get betty on my arm, that'd be a cool tattoo.

dug up this thread because i think plagiarizing Roy Lichtenstein's "Seductive Girl" would make a good tattoo. really classy naked lady tattoo. just classy as fuck.

i want them to just make a stamp of the original and slap it on my arm, then trace it on forever. do tattoo artists have some sort of stupid code about being original or some crap? will they be all pissy about it?

or maybe a cool charles burns illustration. something with awesome line art.

It's as simple as that, trace it onto that contact paper stuff, stick it where you want it and dig that skin up over it. I haven't ever heard of tattoo artists having a problem with copyrights or using other people's art unless obviously it's a copy of a tattoo that they did/is on somebody else, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Here is one of Mine I just walked into the shop threw out my Idea for the Tat and guy drew something up that afternoon.. Just have an Idea go in to a shop Id recomend researching the artist and shops you plan to go to!!! but usually they can make your Idea happen and worst that can happen is it isnt exactly what you want and you ask them to change it up a little bit... Also I personally say go big or go home for the first one!! :s101:
