someone aware me why you would change the vin?
flock the dash board.

because the new dash's vin wont match the rest of the vins on the car
keep the vins the same
save the hassle from the police.

yeah, when i wrecked my last s14, i had replaced the dash with a clean one from a parts car and didnt swap over the vin. the police put a 20 day hold on the car for "stolen car investigation," and that got pricey in the impound.

^^^ If your sooooo bright then how come you didnt leave a suggestion? hmmmm
To keep on topic, there is not really anything to do.
take out the heater core, and ac since you live in california and rarely need them... well heater core you might need if you live in an area that is more desert than coastal since it gets really cold at night. a/c you don't need. you can remove all the vent ducting except what goes to the drivers side. you can relocate all the fuses n such to be under dash behind the glove box for easy access.

first it's you're...
second...
because there isn't shit you can do to the dashboard besides change the vin. And last I checked you have to rivet it in. So that's work in it's own.
Other than that I would probably clean anything that was hard to reach like the bottom of my inner windshield with the dash in the way, maybe wipe the dust off of the boxes that circulate air in my car.
But what that has to do with the dash?
nothing.
I made my point, it's not a dick measuring contest who has the better answer.

is there anything else cool i should do? discuss please.
He asked us to discuss what other "cool" things he could do, and cool being a very subjective word, some people are going to disagree what may or may not be cool.
Some people think neon lights are cool
some people think race prepped street cars are cool
some people think carbon fiber everything is cool
get the point?
stop trying to be such a hard ass on the wrong topics.
Be a hard ass about wrong information.
Be a hard ass about the things that matter to you, be it; love, politics, education, or your personal hobbies.
Don't be a hard ass because OP asked people to discuss what "cool" things he could do, and since "cool" is a subjective term the discussion will be very opinion biased and not fact biased.

coolest fucking thing you can ever do to your car while the dash is out, completely unecessary, completely useless.

If I were you while the dash is out, I would tape $20 bills to random shit that can't be seen or reached when the dash is on. So that way, next time you take off your dash, your gunna be like "OMG MONEY LETZ GO GET BEER"

so what happends if he sells his car b4 he takes the dash back out
then he would lose all that money :(

I have my dash out I should find some wicked awesome cool stuff to do lol

If you plan on changing your carpet i would do that aslo with the dash out. It's a lot easier to lay the new molded carpet down when the dash its out of the way.

I dont care how much weight my heater core add's and how much power my A/C robs from my engine. I wouldnt take that shit out of my car..
But then again, I dont care about weight.. And i like A/C and my heater..
Comes in handy when i go to the snow, or nice hot summer days haha

if youve ever thought about swapping to a Digital Climate Control, this would be the best time to do it.

It's much easier to install air mix door motor for digital climate control when dash is out, but I guess you didn't plan that upgrade. I'm just throwing it out there for other people who might take the dash out in the future.

-to the guy that said why would we remove the heat when we live in cold ass canada :D
we dont drive our summer cars in winter in canada.
so we remove heat.
and we have windows/its really not that hot here so we remove a/c
= weight reduction

what type of engine mounts do you have?
if anything it might be some debris in one of your heater or blower motor boxes.

It'd only take that long if you started without having all the correct parts and haven't done your research. At the most it should take a person a weekend.
Best thing to do is to prepare the wiring before hand and have a set idea of where everything should go.

One of my cars came without ac/heatercore/blower motor. I just don't see that being pratical. If you get stuck out in the rain and your windows start to fog up what are you going to do? Pull onto the side of the road and wait till the fog goes away? I put the blower motor and heater core back in, but I gutted the stock ac. You have to have the ac portion of the system to complete it since its between the heatercore and blower motor. All you have to do is take like 8 screws out and disconnect the lines (that are probably already off) that go through the fire wall pop the box apart and the ac core comes right out. Its only a few pounds, but thats all I can really think to do while you're under there. Maybe ziptie some of your aftermarket gauge wiring/lines up and out of the way.

the 95-97 s14 wires for some odd and retarded reason are pinned differently at almost every connector.
I followed the chuonthis write up to a T.
turns out half of all the plugs on the ends were not pinned the same way when running the diagnostics...
he did his install with crimp connectors which is a pretty quick way to get it done.
but soldering, and heat shrink take time.
removing unused wires takes time, you don't want any shorts.
those things are not listed in his write up.
he does mention however he used the crimp connectors just in case something didn't work he could just remove the crimp and crimp something else.
but anyway what do I know.
There is only like two how to's concerning DCC's swaps, and the s13 one doesn't even have all of it's pictures anymore.

My apologies, I assumed we were talking about an S13. Though I must correct when you say non one has ever done it. I know two people personally that have done it in their S14s, one being Luisgonz. His seemed to work perfect as far I know.

Couldn't most of this be done before the actual install though? I've done so with the S13 and it was much less of a headache than I thought it was going to be.

Do that and put it out in the middle of the street (Dead end people not in the middle of traffic) Strip the wires plug them into an extension cord run the other end of the cord a good distance away to a 12v battery. Touch the ends to the battery. You will soon realize you are damn glad you removed that air bag. Shit comes out with a fury! Or you can have some real fun wire it up to the igniton of a buddies car and hide it under the seat lol, but I would only reccomend doing that with a smaller, weaker, side impact air bag out of a seat or something, might make the person deaf using a full size one. If you do the steering wheel one, place it face down and watch it hop 15 feet in the air and float down like a parachute. Yeah... I was bored.
