hello, i was working on my sr on a engine stand earlier re timing everything. while im turning my crankshaft im hearing clicking sound, then couple of turns the very first rocker arm from exhaust side popped saw something flew in front of my face. then i was likE wtf, then i started checking the head then i found rocker arm popped out missing 2 shims. so i went ahead and disassemble everything down to pulling out the head. so i took pics and hoping people can point out how to check for bent valves after what happened.

hard to tell from the front, the shaft of the valve would be whats bent. You could pull them and inspect them one at a time. Sound like your issue was more along the lines of the rocket, valve shims, or the retainers. If anything, disassemble, clean, re shim, and check your spring pressures.

isnt it like when u have a bent valve u can tell by just looking at the valves not sitting properly?

if it was severely bent you would see it
if one of them is bent and you cant see it then you have to pull them out
try putting the spark plugs back in
then fill the cc with oil and see if it leaks out
if one cyl leaks more then the rest than it may have a bent valve
its prolly not a bent valve though

Yup unless you really jacked the valve, its very hard to see and you have to pull the valves to check... SHould be more careful.

take it to a napa with a machine shop, theyll pressurize it for you for 10 bucks and make sure that the valves are seating and all.

if you bent a valve it wont seat properly and youll be leaking air through

the best way to check it is to pull all the valves and inspect them for damage. and then to mic them with a micrometer if you have one and see what your readings are because just getting it pressure tested doesn't just point to bent valve it could also be the valve seats in the head are bad or just worn out could also be the valve guides. but it would be best to take it to a machine shop and let someone with experience work on it engines especially heads are not something that an engine novice should even attempt to mess with. but you do what you want.

Yeah here in the Philly area the price to check a single 4 cylinder head is 25 bucks and 45 addl to mill it.

not bad sounding. usual disassemble and reassemble of head costs about 150.
