I was rearended a couple of weeks ago and my car is totaled. It's an IROC-Z, yes i know, don't get me started on the sloth-like thirdgens(although mine was pretty fast). Anyway, he came back with some silly quote, but I doubt I'm going to get much more, so I'm looking to the only import brand I think I could ever own, which is Nissan. I know it's all up for debate, but is it really worth it to get a 240 if it only costs 1500 to 3000(thats all I plan on getting). I was planning to either do the "mandatory" sr swap, or just turbo the KA with the injury part when I get it back. What models are really best? Im looking for the s13 body by the way. I appreciate it. Oh yeah, help me with anything else my ignorant a** should know.

Well, if I you I would be focused on learning about the car first of all. The swap or turboing the car isn't as simple as it is made out to be. Yeah 240s can be fast, but if you are looking for the easiest car to make into a good drag car, I would look elsewhere. If you are interested in many aspects of the car (other than its capability to make a lot of power) and you are willing to learn a lot then go for it.

well I know a little bit, ive been doing some reading, but I thought Id ask other owners as well. I dont need a drag car though. I like the thought of beating hondas and such, but I was just getting into drifting in the IROC and now its dead. I also like to turn fairly well and not have to manipulate a 3500lb car through turns I shouldnt be takin in the first place. I did get into drifting that way though(accidentally). I dont need a monster, id just buy another IROC and dump $$ into the engine, but I eventually wanted to have an all around car.

dont ever call the SR swap MANDATORY

as far as the 240sx goes, get it! car is CHeAP fun and you'll have a great time

if you go SR, and not sure on it (its not as easy as people make it to be, especially if you cant do wiring changes and various modifications) then take it to a shop to do it for you.

the engine is quick and yes, with certain power mods you'll eat some cars for breakfast.

check out www.srswap.com to learn more on the SR

I agree with people that says that you have to learn how to drive the car first. You may have a slight advantage because you drove a torquy rwd car already so you're not the typical FWD guy that gets a RWD 240sx because it's "cool". You should still drive the car a few months before swapping the SR. SR powered 240s don't react, handle or act the same way at all. On vaccum, the car doesn't have as much power and torque, but once it's on boost, it's easy to lose the rear end. Anyways, 240sx are fun, with or without the SR. It's a great car that handles great. You'll love it.

You asked what models are best. . .

With the 240sx, it really doesn't matter. You have the same drivetrain regardless of the trim level. Differences in suspension exist, but that's the first thing upgraded by most folks. One thing to keep an eye out for is HICAS (a four wheel steering system found on some SE and LE models). People either love it or hate it. Some say it makes drifting more difficult, some don't give a damn.

Between the hatchback and notchback models, the notch is generally lighter (but not by a big enough factor to matter much) and more rigid (again, not by a great amount), whereas the hatchback is freaking beautiful :P

I appreciate the help. As for the MANDATORY SR thing, I was being sarcastic. It seems that everyone who I hear talk about 240s say something about how they HAVE to do the swap, so I was commenting in my own way. If I get a 240, I just want a little more power over stock is all since I am used to power with the IROC.

Hey misnomer you like the HB? Im actually more partial to the NBs if I could find one. I have seen some nice hatches though, good lookin cars.

1991+ I hear is the years to get of these cars, any truth to that? How many miles is too much on these cars?

ah cool on the sarcism. just wanted to make sure.

anyways, i say 91+ fo sure. DOHC more power if you have to stay w/ KA for sometime. and its easier for SR swap i hear?

also dont settle for a burgundy model! get a white one ;) so nice. hehe..

also i say go for coupes!!! fastbacks are easy to find coupes take more work, but look better w/ a silvia front end imho.

anyways, do a lot of research and check out this

www.socal240sx.org

check out the profiles and FAQ sections, you can learn a lot on that stuff!!

As for milage, KA are pretty hard to blow... If it's been well maintained, milage doesn't mean anything. :)

And 91-93 are the easiest to swap if you intend on swapping someday.

I agree with dousan: get a white one. ;)

if you want a coupe you are gonna be torn..
do you go with the 91-93 and get the tach that works with the sr20 and the PS lines that bolt up?
or do you get an 89-90 with a beautiful two tone paint job?
ahh, decisions, decisions.
my choice?
swap the cluster from a front clip and buy some stainless ps lines (old ones probably aren't in the best shape anyway).
get a nice old two tone, and a silvia front end.
yee haw?
