this may be a silly question, but id like an answer. On a turbo car, in this case an sr20det powered car, how would running the car with no DP or exhaust effect how it ran?
thanks in advance

Underhood temperatures would be an issue

rofl. wut? sure, you could run no exhaust or DP. You may have overboost issues and you may inhale carbon monoxide in your cabin.

it would run perfectly. that's a stupid question. all exhaust pipe does is reroute the exhaust somewhere its harmless. engine bay, is harmful.

Hot, loud, and silly.
Good for sex, not always good for an engine.

it will run. but I am not sure how well you would feel after 10 minutes.
for the cost of a strait pipe I would just do that if you want some free flow. as long as its a track car.

this isnt about money. i recently was told that it would affect the building of boost etc and wasnt sold on it and wanted clarification. thats all.

You wouldn't have any hearing left really quick. That's about it.

Itll boost but you wont hit it...your ears will bleed first before you even see boost. I drove from LA to Norcal with my elbow hanging on to the turbo. Car bottomed out going thru the grapevine and sheared the 5 bolts holding the elbow to the turbo. Shit was so loud, I had to cruise in 3rd gear doing 4k all the way home cuz that was the quietest RPM and gear.

Um I am running my sr downpipe only, shit overboosts like a motherfucker and cuts out and shoots fireballs under my car at 4krpms.
I would highly advise AGAINST it.

u would loose all low end torque hahah
no back pressure sucks, i ran open dp for a while, it was loud as fuck
top end is awesome, sounds like a diesel but low end is a slug

I have had only DP and I DD it, maybe I am just used to it but it does not seem much louder than my friends straight pipe.... The carbon monoxide might kill you but thats about it.
My engine does NOT run hotter, also it does not overboost. flames at 4k yes.

Your low end torque will be reduced and you high end will feel much faster. I wouldn't recommend running no dp or exhaust due to heat and you'll be feeling dizzy in the car after 15 min of driving. I would recommend an exhaust for a more balanced feel. It'll be loud for sure. Here is my car with open dp: YouTube - RPRacing Dyno Day - December 12, 2007 - Nissan 240 Turbo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=614lzJHyTRk)
As for running a straight pipe, yes it will be just as loud on the outside but in the inside, its much quieter since the exhaust isn't coming out from under or in front of you.

you will spool quicker, and it will scare the panties off any nearby girls!
Your firewall and surrounding area will be hot as fuck, along with the nasty fumes in your cabin.
Why do you want to do this?
Atleast run a dp, or fab something cool.

It may run a little rougher with no dp or catback... When I was running open header on my KA, I noticed that it didn't run anywhere near as smooth as it did with a full exhaust. Lack of proper exhaust scavenging and whatnot.
