Just picked up a 90 240sx with a k24e

Hi I just picked up a 89 240 sx with the original ka24e engine for a fixer upper/commuter, It seems to have some issues some of you can maybe help me with. When I picked it up it had some hesitation problems but i just changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, added and cleaned some grounds and fuel filter and seemed to fix that and runs a little smoother.
Only thing is when engine is cold and I give it gas it really bogs quite a bit but when warm it seems to be fine, any suggestions? maybe IAC valve?


When im accelerating the shifter seems to wobble around quite a bit idk it thats normal? I checked all the mounts they seem pretty worn the only thing missing was the bracket from the tranny mount to the exhaust.

Also it is a manual tranny and when I put it in reverse the idle drops down from a few hundred RPM I don't know if that is normal??

Also idk if it is a cluster malfunction but when I am in neutral sitting in my driveway revving the engine the mph gauge goes up and down along with the tach, but on the highway it seems to work fine.?? Im wondering if I swap the cluster that will fix it since it has cracked plastic and looks kinda beat up.

Well a lot of times you will have to let your engine warm up in order for the idle to run smooth but you should check your throttle body and make sure it is all cleaner. YOur shifter. you should check the little retainer ring under the shifter boot. Check and make sure that all your cluster wiring is solid and nothing is loose. that's about it.

thanks for the reply. I cleaned out the throttle body too I forgot to mention but im going to clean out the idle control valve tomorrow and see if that does anything.
i will try and pull the cluster too and see if I seen anything that don't look right

yeah that should help out a lot. You should actually use sea foam and try it. My first single cam ran super strong after i used it. There was so much shit in the pipes and it cleaned everything. Do you know how to use the sea foam bro?

yea lol I am goin to do that soon I have a extra bottle sitting in my garage. I used to do that to my old AE86's. I just need to do it at night lol since all the smoke and I live on a very busy street.
