S15 T28 vs GT2871R Visual Difference

Ive seen threads about the differences in power and all that and that they have the same turbine and compressor but how can u tell the difference visually?

How do u kno if the turbo ur buying from another person is a s15 T28 or a GT2871r? Any visual differences?

I checked p2m but the comparison picture doesnt state which turbo is the t28 and the gt2871r

k figured it out. I just looked on the placard for the serial numbers in the middle. I BELIEVE the first one is the individual turbo serial number and the second one is the Part number.

It should read out like this:
Garrett
xxxxxxxxx
472560-5015

I just checked online for the part number and it turns out to be a gt2871 bb turbo. I guess thats the only way to tell them apart.

The inlet size of the compressor housing is different !!
The stock S15 turbo uses a 2 bolt flanged inlet pipe and the 2871 is a 3" inlet

The S15 turbo has a smaller notch in the ex housing divider than the 52 trim 2871R.

o the one i have has the same compressor housing so those are the ones im referring to, not the other hybrid or others ones. Heres an image of the ones im referring to:

The compressor wheel inducer is visibly bigger. It's about the same diameter as the beginning of the inlet, the T28 has a visible taper. GT2871R is the one on the left in the above picture obviously.
