About to do my SR swap and was wondering how common it really is for 240SX owners to get ref tickets here. I don't plan to drive like an asshole, but I will have a 240SX that looks like the typical you know... So for strictly LA/OC/IE people:
1. How often do you get pulled over?
2. Out of those times, how often do they check under the hood?
3. And out of those times, how often did you get a ref ticket?

I swear we get a thread like this every month.
If you're afraid of being pulled over then don't do the swap. The police will pull you over no matter what your car looks like. Illegal mods or not.

we do?
i'm doing the swap regardless, i'm wondering if its as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
that's werid, i've never been pulled over in my stock cars, when i'm not driving like an ass.
thanks for the unforeseeing remark.

if u drive legally and nicely, you will be fine.
if you have a loud muffler then you will be pulled over if they hear it period. if they pop your hood just depends on the cop.
its a risk u take.
do some readin there is tons of this information on this forum already.

i swear we should make a thread to end all threads and sticky it.
All these ref threads are making me nervous hah, I'm swapped going on 2 months, I daily commute to LA from Cerritos stock body+rims(lowered) full 3" exhaust, no cat and magnaflow muffler(still really quiet compared to other cars) and only been pulled over once for a taillight being out. Actually I've never been popped in any of my cars that I've own over the years from turbo d15 hondas to a H/C/I + Nitrous 302 mustang.
I guess some people are more lucky than others but I am planning to pick up a daily(want a datsun 610 wagon BAAAAD!) I suggest you do the same because sooner or later you're gonna run into that "one cop" that's just having a bad day and there is gonna be shit you can do except get out that $$$$$$$$ for the ref.
Good Luck

3. And out of those times, how often did you get a ref ticket?
1. I get pulled over about 3 times a month. ( i stay in long beach)
2. My hood gets popped every time i get pulled over, but about 80%
of the time the cops don't know what they're looking at. I dont mind
mind them popping my hood, (its bone stock of course. even stock air
box.)
3. I've been pulled over lets say .. probably 20 times since i've purchased
my car about a year and a half ago. I've been ticketed once, for having
no front plate; but was pulled over for being too low, and having a loud
exhaust. (easily avoided those offenses by being polite.)
I guess it all depends on your luck, and how you approach the officer.
Be nice, be polite, and treat the officer with respect. Put a smile on
and speak like you have some sense. Those are the rules that i abide
by when i get pulled over; and if you still get ticketed, dont bitch and
complain that he was a dick, because it's your fault in the first place.
Go with those pointers and should be fine for the most part. Trust me,
i've gotten myself out of some ridiculous shit with those pointers.

Haha you guys with bone stock cars getting pulled over/popped makes me lol.
*knock on wood*
My car is "Zilvia-low", has the loudest blow-off valve of any car I've heard, has aggressive wheels/aero, a huge front mount, gauges on the dash, and a huge N1-style exhaust tip.
I've never been pulled over in my S14 (had it built for over a year), because I drive slowly (right at the speed limit), don't rev/burnout/street drift/race, my exhaust is quiet, my car is registered/insured/clean, I avoid 'trouble spots' like Angeles Crest and GMR, and I don't look like a high school kid.
Don't drive like you have a fast car, drive like you have a car you are interested in keeping for a while.

My car is electric blue, blacked out windows, 4" exhaust pipe, window decals and I get pulled over about every year or sometimes 2 years around Los Angeles.
