Hey, I've got my block all the way stripped, but I can't get the water necks off. Well one of them is the crankcase vent, the other is to the heater core. but you know which I mean. I tried vice grips, but they don't budge. How'd you guys get them off? (btw my motors in my bedroom, I don't have things like ocy. torch, so you at-home-builders got any tips?) I'm trying to minimize damage here.

Why are you removing them?

On most the manifolds/blocks I've stripped down for core or recycling, the steel necks are pressed in so tight they don't budge. Usually gripping them enough to twist them out will crush/deform the neck, making it useless. I've maybe been able to pull a couple of the smaller ones out with a lot of effort, but bigger ones don't budge. If you're removing them to replace, beat them down flat and they'll give, otherwise I wouldn't make the effort.

i always ruin the coolant one removing it, as i normally dont need it if i remove it(vise-grips)... i will plug it with a 1/2" npt plug.

the crank case vent on the exh. side one can be tapped out with a screw driver and hammer from underneath... or normally just twist and pull it out.

what size of fittings do you guys recommend to use on a s14 sr20 valve cover? i want to go with AN fittings and stainless lines, but since i live in germany im not to fond of how big a 12 AN fitting really is.
and would you recommend to weld the fittings on the valve cover or cut a treat in there and screw em in there?

I mostly just wanted the out so they're not in the way for the machine shop. But whatever, I guess I'll just let them deal with it.

you dont need to take them out. the machine ship will have no trouble to work with an engine where the waternecks are still in place, those pieces arent ment to be taken out anyways iirc. at least not on a regular basis. youll be fine and if the shop needs to take'em out, they'll find a way :D

I dunno why they would be in the way of the machine shop. If they need to remove and replace let them do it. They have awesome tools for removing stuff and if they screw up then they buy the new part.
