Cops can give ref tickets when ever they want... mostly because they are unsure of a modification. Exhausts are usually a dead giveaway for the dickest cops to give ref tickets... but that shouldn't be news to anyone.

true. depending on where you live its much worse than others. where i live cops have better things to do than to completely make our lives hell. its the CHP in camarillo that got me. not my local PD.

Yup, i got a ref ticket without being popped.
Supposedly, my exhaust was loud under the tunnels.

yeah the last ticket i got was for my exhaust being to loud N/A hks hipower. i went to get it signed off @ the courthouse and they told me they dont sign off on aftermarket exhausts, they dont have the DB sensor. anyways drove down to the SJC chp they gave my exhaust a quick look then told me to start it up 2secs later they told me to turn the car off said nope still to loud. they told any exhaust that looks or sounds aftermarket will get a ticket.

i've passed by cops with open window and my dual n1, nothing. Here in Esco they must be super lenient or something. Cop was right in front at the light.

its the CHP who are cracking down on the Modded stuff due to the fact that many people are running from them.
i asked a friend of mine.

No, the new laws being put into motion arent just modifications, its really just emissions.
If your car smokes (modded or stock), even a little... they can pull you over for some BS pollution act.
no joke

If it looks modified a cop will still tell you its aftermarket even if its super silent. My buddy got a ref ticket with his rsr ex-mag catback with a glasspack and resonator when he was driving home at 10:00pm on a sunday night goin 55 behind a semi truck on the highway when the cop was driving the other direction. Cop flipped a bitch and said ur exhaust is modified and asked him if his car was a civic or integra.
Even with oem looking setup cops will still profile, thats just the way it is.

Simple solution:
If you're na, why put an exhaust on your car? Honestly you gain less than 5 hp from a catback...I know it looks nicer, but I'd rather have a stock exhaust than risk getting picked on by police.

They are cracking down a lot more because of the recent street racing bust in socal. it's even infesting norcal. I too also got pulled over about 3 times in past two weeks in my S14[Circuit Sports Exhaust], the officer really wanted to say something about the exhaust but they couldn't because it's much quieter then the V8's with stock exhaust.
It's just the way it is, state needs money, the officers needs to get paid, and that's how the cookie crumbles
