i have probelm
i drive for say 30km or more on the highway and then i drive on side streets. when i turn the lsd clunks like cray. but if i don't drive on the highway and turn its fine. no noises. this is not typical of 2 way. so does anyone have any clues.. could it be time for an oil change ,... friction additive or what?

hmmm, I have KAAZ 2way LSD in my S14 and it only clunks during low speed turning. We put a friction additive but that did'nt really do anything to be honest. When I first put it in I thought I had seriously F'ed it up cuase it sonds like my car was falling apart but now I know that it's normal.

measure backlash correctly?
You bettter have.
Drop it down, flush it out, new fluids and thickening additive. Lucas works for me. its normal to clunk BTW.

kaaz 2 ways do this, to me its normal. i have had 3 cars with kaaz 2ways and im used to it. if its bothering you get another brand.
on the other hand if its not a kaaz, open it up and see if you see teeth from gears in your diff, if so, time to get a new ring and pinion gear and back lash it correctly. lastly, make sure everything is tight, that your bushings are cherry, and that your carrier bearing on your ds is still cherry.

I have heard time and time again that your supposed to change the diff oil every 3k miles or change it with your engine oil (when using a clutch style). I dont know how correct that is but mine seems to get right around that if not a little less, but my car does not see much if any street duty, mostly just drift or anything that means spinning the rear wheels like a crazy man. Anyways it is very easy to tell when its time to change the fluid because the diff starts acting pissy keeping my rear wheels locked up around low speed turns and making audiable pops when it lets go. I have a tomie 2 way that was made by kaaz so were in a similar situation.
Anyways what I have found to be best (and Im talking the 1st 1k miles is almost like driving without a lsd installed untill you try to spin the wheels) is use cheap coastal diff fluid. Also go to the ford dealership and pick up some motorcraft friction modifier. Its like $5 a small bottle and add the entire bottle to the diff and fill it up the rest of the way with the diff grease.
You will be pleasently supprised how well this works and how tolerable the lsd is! You wont go back to any other way!
Also, things that make it easier to add in the friction modifer is go to walmart and pick up a syringe with a rubber hose on it that is intended to pre mixing 2 strok oil with gas. Just suck the friction modifier out of the bottle and squirt it in the diff.
Trust me, everything I just posted is worth the money.

errrrr NO, the kaaz 2 way is sold as a LSD pumpkin and not as a complete carrier/housing. the housing is still an r200 OEM nissan part. the thing i noticed about kaaz 2 ways depending on the year you bought it was they have no distinguishable markings and that they are very large. i also noticed a few that had 1 inch holes in the body of the housing.
