View Full Version : Question: JDM 180SX APEXi Brake Rotor

I have a question in regards to the compatibility of the JDM Brake Rotors made for a JDM 180SX, S13. The setup is a swap out of the factory rotors, by any chance are the US Spec 240SX 89-93 models compatible? Just asking since I plan on bringing a load of the slotted AP Lockheed and APEXi front brake rotors.
Thanks!;)

no, wont. 180sx is bigger then stock 240sx.

They'll fit on first gen Altimas though! heheh.

They won't work on a 240SX without the 180SX calipers. same as 3rd gen Maxima IIRC.

AKA DRIVER--
Are you saying they will work if had the 180SX calipers? Any other items one may need to slap on the APEXi rotors? I can get 180SX calipers all day long.
Thanks again

you might consider apex'i z32tt rotors. a lot of poeple have z32tt (30mm) brake upgrades.

I thought the 180sx had the same brakes as the 240sx.

My advice would be to not think that. :D

CA18 180SX rotors are smaller (thinner). SR20 180SX rotors are larger (in diameter).

I thought jdm cars had the same brakes as usdm, a sport compact car issue said that, I thought.
If the jdm brakes are bigger why don't people swap them on off their front clips? I haven't heard of anyone doing this, is there a reason?

I think a lot of people just don't know. The increase in size is minimal, although the added mass of the rotor would probably improve heat capacity measurably. I have them.
It's hard to find rotors and pads though, you have to know which rotors fit on which year cars and this and that, and it gets a little confusing.

as far as brakes go Tokyo, I would not even bother bringing in 180sx calipers they come thru on a lot of clips so people either sell them pretty cheap here or toss them.
Like dousan said you are better off looking at 300 brakes or S14 JDM calipers which are 4 pot 26mm calipers and rotors like the NA 300 . Or go for the 32 brakes which are 30mm 4 pot . Now those you would have a market for here.

S14 Silvia K's brakes are 30mm.

Also, the 180SX/S13 Silvia K's brakes have been discussed at length on freshalloy... here are the US market equivalents:

Calipers/pads: '91 Maxima (any 3rd gen '89-'94 should work)
Rotors: '94 Altima (again, any 1st gen '93-'97 should work)

Real easy to find those parts.

These have been double and triple checked for accuracy.

Sport Compact Car is no authority on this stuff.

Some people do swap this stuff off their clips. But, a lot of times as delivered the rotors are messed up, or they already have even larger brakes (i.e. Z32).

So jst to make sure... 180sx (ca18) front calipers WILL fit on 89 240sx? Also which would be better, s13 180sx front calipers, or s14 front calipers?

Doesnt matter...they both suck. Go get yourself some Z32/R32 brake setup...

As long as you have the rotors too.
