Dark Shades of Blue - Xavier Rudd

He is pretty popular in Australia and Europe and is finally catching on in numbers here in America.

I have been sitting on this cd for awhile and listened to it thoroughly for awhile when it first came out. Then, I kind of forgot about it and lost the cd. Well yesterday I found it and it has blown my mind all over again.

The opening tracks are heavy and dark and it slowly moves to a lighter side, culminating at the last track on the album.

Anyways, just thought I would share since the only artists I ever see with their own threads are hip-hop people and the like. So take the couple of minutes to buy or download this cd and share your opinions, maybe I am just crazy but I enjoy it more than any of his other work or anything I have heard recently.

The stand out tracks to me are:

1.Black Water + Dark Shades of Blue
3.Secrets
5.Edge of the Moon
7.Shiver
11.Home

There are a few tracks on youtube as well, but only some of my favorites;

The first song is not quite as awesome without the intro track but it gives an idea of the diversity.

Note: You probably wont like it if you like any of the following bands.

-Tool
-Disturbed
-Godsmack

etc...

You know, for some reason, the song in the first video kinda makes me think of a crappy sort of acoustic version of Tool. lol

Man, I need to start drinking again. All this sobriety is fucking with my mind.

Sounds kinda like mix between the blues & metal.
I like some of the blues
generally i'm not a fan of metal.

don't care too much for the beat, but i like the use of instruments.
first min of listening, didn't like too much.
listening further, it the style grows on you a bit.
not bad, thanks for the recommendation.

reminded me of crystal antlers in a way.

Def not an artist I would refer to as "mind blowing"

Album that blew my mind recently...

I may give this guy a bit more listening time tho. I'm not one to judge on one track.

The first few times I listened to songs off this cd I wasn't really digging it and I listened to them one at a time, in jumbled order. While the songs themselves are great I think it's the album as a whole that delivers the punch. That's why I decided to post a thread about it.

Really the only way is just to have good speakers or headphones and play the whole thing through. It's a 45 minute journey.

Ya man. I get you.

Usually takes a few good listens of entire CD to make a judgement. I may just download the torrent now and throw it on my pod in case I want to listen sometime.

EDIT: Ugh... I have to download his entire discography. Oh well.

Just finished DLing John Frusciante's To Record Only Water for Ten Days

I'd say mind blowing... no wait... more like acid trip.

Well his other albums are great too, I just like this one the best. Can't you deselect files with utorrent?

I want to make hip-hop beats sampling John Frusciante.

It's just that things at the plant aren't looking good, and Johnny's medical bills are seeping into our savings.
