So I bought my first 240SX last week from a guy up in Chicago. I got it for a good price and the motor and trans seemed to be in good condition. I was told by him that the owner he had bought the car from had dropped in this Ka24e after having blown the original engine. The car also recieved a transmission swap from auto to manual. Honestly the guy did a really bad job. Since buyin the car I replaced the ecu with a manual one and put in the starter motor after having it tested (the owner said it was bad) and redid some preliminary wiring. I made all the connections needed to get the car to crank. When I turn the key I hear a clicking noise coming from the relay box next to the headlamps and nothing else happens. What can this be, ANY ideas? Also I need a vacuum line diagram for the engine to double check that all the connections are correct. :newbie: by the way I appreciate any advice other than to get an sr20de

Because diagnosing your car is harder than swapping motors....
download the FSM, it gives you wiring diagrams and vac line diagrams.
Google '89 240sx FSM' and BAM.

since i got this car for 400, i'm willing to deal with the problem. also, i dont have the money for a new motor so thats why i'm tryin to revive what i have.

Are you sure the clicking sound is not coming from the starter?

^^+1
the starter could be getting a bad ground or the battery isn't fully charged. the solenoid makes that clicking noise

its some kind of fuse that is bad. i think its a 30 amp out of the fuse box on the front passenger side of the car. the starter is still good, like i said i had it tested a few days ago. the starter is hooked up right and should have a good ground. the battery i used to start the car is a good strong battery out of a truck. the car still wont start if anyone is selling a wiring harness plus a ka24e motor it would be great espcailly if its in illinois

could it be the notorious 75amp ALT fuse?

Its maybe some sort of relay thing, like one of those white boxes by the fuses.
bypass the ignition and push that bitch and pop the clutch.
or get a screw driver and arc the starter to kick it on.
easy.
dont worry about the vacum lines just yet. just makesure all the general stuff is hooked up, but the egr shit, fuck it.
just make sure there are no leaks and the FPR is hooked up.
get back to us after starting it using my methods.
BTW, check oil now.
good?
metal flakes?
i had the same exact problem...try grounding, solenoid, battery or even ignition...but i don't know about your ecu...you sure it's good?

the ecu should be good still. i ordered it from a yard in cali and was told by the owner that all the ecu's are tested before selling. and the oil is good, no metal shavings or anything in it.
by the way new update. my friend recommended that i check all the wiring behind the dash where the radio would usually be. i did that and found that the wiring was all jacked up. it looked like the former owner cut the wires and tried to hotwire em all together. so anyone got a good harness for cheap?
