one good sub? what do you recommend a 15''? do you know the size of a 92 coupe's trunk? i can barely fit the 12''s. and i don't feel like spending a lot of money... 2 12'' or 3 10'' is what im wondering which will sound better?

okay, you don't want to spend a lot of $, but you want big sound... hmm... what were u planning to get? If you get the cheapest crap around and throw 2-3 10s or 12s, all you'll have is a loud but crappy sounding system that takes up your whole trunk. Better to just get one nice 12" or something, and have a system that sounds decent. Quality over quantity u know?

You ask what will sound better, 2 12's, or 3 10's, it really depends on what you're getting, as well as what your idea of "better" is. Is "better" louder? clarity? accuracy? All these factors also determine what kind of power you'll be pushing your drivers with. More info is needed for advice that'll be of any real use to you.

ok.. sorry for the lack of details...

my choices are:

2 12'' 450W Pionners or 3 10'' MTXs

I know they are not the best subs out there, but i can get either for about $100,00, so for what i need either one should be ok, and what i mean by better is not louder, by better i mean that i will feel the bass more, without getting the annoying "boom boom". I'm not looking for competition sound, i have a 760w (2x300w) xplod amp, which i got for $60,00.. so i'll use that... i just want to feel some bass on my car, what i mean by better is what you feel (the shaking), not what the neighboors hear! (boom boom) :-)

thank you

save some money and get two Type R 12's. Sorry nobody is answering which subs you should pick, but they wouldn't even be worth 100 dollars. So just save and get better subs. The amp is alright though, I would prefer and Alpine though.

Alpine subs are awesome. I have two Type S 12's. They don't sound as good as the Type R's that xLSTONEx is recommending, but when I have my windows up and crank up my system, I get a nice back massage and it rattles pretty much everything in my car. I can send you to a guy a person that can sell you two Type S's for $150 including shipping. They retail usually $120 a piece in stores.

Seriously, one 12" high quality sub (JL, Infinity, alpine?) will throw down plenty in a small car like the 240, while sounding better than multiple average subs and leave some trunk space.

Get a good sealed box too if you want accuracy.

Mostly, whatever you get, get it in Dual Voice Coil. Its gives it nice clear and crisp bass. If anyone wants any custom boxes made, let me know. I am thinking about trying to start a small business making boxes.

Certain MTX aren't bad. the Thunder 6000 are good. I haven't heard the 8000, but I heard they really pound. Definately don't go with the 4000, they just suck.

I totally agree with ya there!
Sealed box all the way too. Bandpass is for ppl who get crappy components and need the easier air flow to make them sound crappy even louder, ugh. hehee

I guess not to say that bandpass doesn't have it's place, I'd just rather have ACCURATE sound reproduction over volume.

If I were you, I would look at the ID Max subs. Amazing price, great output. Port the box if you have enough space. It will give the most spl. Get 12's if it will also fit. And I'd ditch the ****ty Xplod amp and buy a JBL BP600.1 (which actually puts out around 700RMS). That sounds like all you need.

I used to have two 10" Alpine Type R's in a 4.5 cu ft ported box tuned to around 40hz. It was a pretty nice system. I hit 140.5db's.

If it were me, and I'm a bass nut, I would pick up a pair of Resonant Engineering XXX 12's (rated at 1600RMS per sub), powered off a pair of JBL BP1200's amps. I'd make a 6-8 cu ft box and tune it to 33 hz or so. That would pound....

later

btw: might have to sell my 240 in like a month or so ... i'll post it here, stay tuned

If you know what your are doing, and know you wont blow your subs, get them off Ebay. Subs on there are amazingly cheaper. But, you don't get a chance for a service plan. Whats your wattage on the amp at 4 and 2 ohms?

3 10's is gonna be loud.. hell in a 240 2 12's are gonna be loud too.

Honestly it sounds like all you would really need is either 1 ID Max as suggested earlier, or maybe an Adire audio Shiva or Tempest.. the shiva is cheap and POUNDs
