Nascar Hybrids

basic summary, Nascar is now using Toyota Camry Hybrid as it's pace car.

The Camry lent by Toyota had to pass a NASCAR performance test. The hybrid must reach speeds close to 100 mph by the time it reaches the second turn of Lowe's Motor Speedway from a standby position near the exit of pit road.zoom zoom zoom!

The Camry hybrids are actually pretty peppy. They aren't slow like the Prius.
In fact, I'm pretty sure the Camry hybrid would spank my S13 in a 1/4 mile race. lol

Still, it seems like a fairly silly choice for a pace car.

C'mon, Jeff, you're smarter than that...
NASCAR is the biggest sell as far as Motorsports goes in the United States, and that is not just in the southeast either. Toyota knows where their bread is buttered, and if there is money to be made on sponsorship of ANY form of motorsport, it would be SILLY to plug in to anything other than the biggest.
Unfortunate, yes, but no less true.

what a bunch of marketing BS (not that the rest of NASCAR isn't). hybrids suck at steady state driving. it will probably get better mileage than other pacecars but mostly because of the non-hybrid specific changes.

I feel that things like this are killing Nascar.
