Hey guys, just looking to see if any of you have gotten your AC hooked up in your car since you did the SR swap? I'm located in Orange County and i got a quote from this dude at an AC shop that quoted me $200! :bite:

Just seeing if there was anyone around the OC area that had this done, and how much did it cost?

if your missing the parts, thats a decent deal.

buying an ac compressor with bracket, plus the condensor plus the lines, is not cheap. plus installing it and charging it...

if you have all your shit installed and he wants 200 to fix it, that still seems decent if you have a problem and you dont know how to fix it. and if he charges it and shit. i dont know i would pay 200 any day of the week to have working ac in my car.

Here are the parts that i have. In the 1st pic, i need both ends hooked up to one another.

And in the second pic, that fitting that is circled needs to be hooked up to the SR air compressor. I believe i might need a diff fitting for it tho. The 1st pic's fitting bolts up fine, just like i said i need them to be pieced together.

If you released all the freon you cant just charge it with those bottles you find at the auto parts stores it has to be professionally done and since the dryer is exposed to air it has to be replaced also. My brother had to recharge his system after an accident and that's from experience.

My buddy works at a shop and can professionally charge it for me. Thats how i was planning on doing it.

If you have the sr compressor and the lines from the clip have a radiator shop cut and

weld the sr lines to your oem lines so you will have stock lines with sr ends to meet with

the sr compressor and change all the o rings and dryer and charge.

Or you can buy the adapter brackets that were for sale on here in the advertisers section.

I'm a little lost as to what the dryer is. I thought i had to get a custom fitting something along the lines of like R132 or something.

I'm in the same boat! I have no idea what parts i need. You can see from the pics i have that i pretty much have the parts, just need them to be fitted with the right fitting! :wtc:

I've had a/c in all my swapped cars from the beginning. If you live in So Cali I just don't understand why people don't do the swap with a/c, unless they bought their cars w/o it. What's even more dumb are people who remove the a/c for "less parasitic loss" gimme a fucking break

Dryer - they are referring to the Liquid Tank. If disconnected and this unit gets exposed to the atmosphere, it needs to be replaced.

I can't remember the cross streets to well, but it's off Imperial. I don't really want to spend $200 to get my AC working so i'm still looking around.

hmm...200 sounds like a good price tho, I got quoted 500, and one of my friends got his fixed for around 500 too. although my car hasn't had a/c working ever since i bought it.

can we just get dohc a/c parts and bolt it up with the sr? except switch out the a/c compressor with a sr one?

Well if you want to do that, you can bolt up the KA compressor to the SR, but you need a custom bracket. If not, you have to get custom fittings for the AC lines to bolt up to the SR compressor. Yeah, confusing i know..........

dude $200 is not bad if they have to weld extended lines and whatnot. Shit I would pay $200 for air con conversion on a SR or RB or even a VQ in a heartbeat thats pretty reasonable when you consider Freon is like $70 a lb and you need at least a pound an a half if not two in a discharged system.

would shops know how to work on an sr20 motor?

DataXUnknown
04-22-2009, 01:35 AM
^ I would never trust a normal shop to work on my SR20. I took my car to super autobacs because I was tired of exhaust leaks and really wanted to just shove a bolt in my exhaust to shut it the fuck up, they were like 'oh yeah jus give us 20 bucks we'll fix it for you'. All it needed was 2 bolts in the turbo outlet, they take in my car, leave it there for about 2 hours (with me watching and waiting there), finally after looking at other cars and such they come back to mine and say "we cant fix it, we need studs that we don't have" (can easily get at Ace) but I just wanted them to shove some same thread bolts in there it would work fine.

They still charged me the 20 bucks and did nothing but tighten the bolts that were on there already.

I kinda just wanted to test autobacs in a way, because you know I think "oh autobacs, they are big in japan and everyone loves them and there so cool my exhaust will be perfect with no leaks after this". Definetly not, I will never take my car there again.

stick with SR specialists (advertisers on this site)

I don't have a #.
It's off Imperial & Leslie. He charges $65 per hose, and he needs to make 2 hoses, so you do the math. I went with my buddy that always goes to him so he said he'd give it to me for $45 each hose. And my buddy will just charge my freon for me! :)
