Hey all,

I'm looking at getting an S14, the one I am looking at is a '95 automatic SE, I will just daily it for a while and put together the parts for a swap.

The problem with this one is the dealer says some trim around the sunroof is broken/missing. He says the sunroof operates perfectly and doesnt leak, just missing some trim.

He also said the grill is kind of messed up, but didnt have pictures on autotrader of either flaw.

How expensive is the trim or whatever goes around the sunroof, I've never had an S14 and don't exactly know what would be missing.

The thing has 147,293 miles and its a 5 lug and all that. The dealership wants 4495, but maybe I can talk that down.

How does that deal sound? If the sunroof thing is an easy fix, I'll go for it for sure.

yea, theres a local auto base with 34k miles for 5000. the one you want should only be worth like 3000 at most, because im sure they offer no warranty on the car.

yeah unless the body and paint is fresh and it was a 5 speed i would not buy it. There are way better deals on craigslist, you just have to wait for them.

last month i bought a 97 240sx auto with 167k mint paint and body for $2450. and a few months ago i bought a 95 240sx se auto with around 110k miles for $1000 and resold it for $3800. just check craigslist daily a couple times. even places out of your area, you just might get lucky like i did

oh and a grille could cost as much as $10-100 depending on which one you get(95,96,jdm,aftermarket).

is it the sunroof weather stripping or the inside trim? it should be an easy find on zilvia with all the partout threads and cost $30 at most.

go kbb.com the s14. see if the dealership did any repairs and maintenance such as timing chain service. and then lowball them by saying you'll pay all cash. find as many flaws you can on the car and make them feel bad haha

Bought my 95 SE Auto with brand new paint and immaculate interior for 3150.

Edit:Forgot to mention it had 130k on the odo.

Hmm I'll keep looking around, I'm going to see if I can get a signature loan instead of an auto loan too. I can use this auto loan to buy a private seller car, but my bank wants to receive the title before they will pay the seller.

I know I wouldnt want to send off the title without having cash in hand, so I imagine it would be hard to find a private seller willing to do that.

I never bothered with a loan on my current 240, I paid cash for that. All this loan business is new to me.

Yeah a couple months ago I was going to do the whole loan thing for a turbo MR2, but you're exactly right. People are very weary about the loan process. Especially since my bank wanted to send a check in the sellers name.... and you know with all the bs floating around with scams and moneygram stuff, people usually are like nope, not unless you have cash in hand.

So to summarize, doing loans with private sellers is a task. Good luck man, hope you find a clean S14.

bought my s14 base w/ 235k for $1200. clutch was slipping, brakes squeak, and little dents here and there, but i cant argue for $1200. motor still pulls like a champ.

I picked up my 2nd s14 about a year and a half ago. Got it for $3,000. Keep looking! I'm sure something will pop up!

Yea I'll keep looking, I'm going to get the guy to send me a pic of the sunroof dmg to see how bad it is, and I'll post it up.

One other thing, all S14 SEs had 5 lugs with the alloy wheels right? I see one that is supposedly a SE but it has the hubcaps... probably not really an SE right?

Yea I have an S13 right now. I don't really see any S13s at dealerships on either autotrader or cars.com

Not sure where else I should look. I could save for 4 or 5 months and have enough to pay cash... but I want something now :p

... but I want something now :p

I fought that urge and came out of it with a Kouki. It's so easy to rush into a car, just step back and make sure it's what you want.

I really wish I wasn't in the south. This place is terrible for finding 240s. :(

240Atlanta.com. Always a few for sale. My car was actually sold new in Mississippi, owner moved to Georgia, sold the car, then it was sold to me. I have the business card of the guy who sold the car in 1997, I was going to call him but the dealership went out of business :(.

They all need work, I'm not recommending or promoting any of them, I just want to let you know there are some in the south. If I'm not allowed to post links to another forum, please let me know so I can edit them out. Just trying to help a fellow member out.

I appreciate the links, its all blocked here at work, but I'll check it out when I get home.

I can find quite a few decent cars between autotrader/nico/zilvia/etc from private sellers but I'm trying to find a dealership. :(

don't fuck with a dealer anyways, you see ooooh five grand but the on top of that there is probably another 700-1000 In tax and tags then 100-200 in dealer fees and anything else they try to throw on top of you, and if isn't already warrantied they will try to get you to pay the 500 or whatever for the shitty ass warranty they want to give you.

In this case there are few, if any, advantages of buying it at a dealership.

You'll rarely find a good deal off a dealer cause they know these cars are in demand. Perhaps the only advantage from shopping from a dealer is that if something should go wrong you stand some chance of getting redemption through the law. Private sellers = buy at your own risk. You're on your own. Buying a 10+ year old car from private sellers is much more riskier. You will find something much cheaper out there but you'll likely have to put extra cash in it to fix what's broken. If you get it that way from a dealer then walk immediately. They shouldnt be selling you a car you need to repair. In that case buy from a private seller. I didnt get a very good deal for mine. I waited and found several in the east coast. I live in the west coast. Its too hard for me going cross country to look at cars. I bought mine off a dealer for just under the mid 5G's and got him to drop it to 5100. After taxes and all I spent like 6025.00. It had 109,000 miles, a clean carfax record, cosmetic work needed on hood while the rest of the body was still glossy. Interior in very good condition. I know its expensive for a 1996 but I too wanted a daily with little work to be done to it. At the time and after waiting and waiting my options seemed to be: buy it cheap and runned and spend fixing it or buy it decent with lower miles but cough up the cash. I didnt want to buy a car to keep it parked cause it needed to be fixed so i went for the dealers. Plus, all this was before i registeded to this and other 240 sites. I'm not the best mechanic and know very few people that could help. That also caused me to steer clear from 140,000+ mile cars, cause it was likely I might have to work on it immediately after buying it.

Here is the dmg to the front I mentioned:

So it looks like it needs at least a blinker, and something is jacked with the grill. The hood is dented a bit, and the front bumper looks kinda jacked. Still no pics of what the sunroof looks like.

I was thinking of spending the $4500 to get a solid daily driver civic or accord or something. I could buy an S13 shell and put my SR and other good parts into that one...
still not sure what I wanna do :(

240SX are waste of money. The less money you spend on them, happier you'll be. trust me.

Imo, get a perfect 240sx dd and buy a sr later, built it slowly... you don't need 2 cars like us because you'll own at the end two piece of shit.

sorry for my english.

IMO it looks like the front is tweaked on the right side... id say pick up an Accord...a nice 5th Gen CD5 (97 model Lx) theres plenty of support for that model online i can find you some links for yah... you can find one for around 2500 with decent miles, why
? because everyone focuses on civics...i picked up my 07 accord for 2k and my sister 94 (same gen just looks a bit fugly to me) for around 1k...sold the 97 (lost my job a while back and needed money) and still have the 94 as my dads commuter...

get an s13 and just build it slowly...

97 accord for refrence http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/cto/1133349036.html

240SX are waste of money. The less money you spend on them, happier you'll be. trust me.

true...

ive got my s13 HB with my CA18 chillin at home, and i DD my s13coupe...theres ups and downs on the whole thing lol
