View Full Version : How to correct: CVC 27156c "smog equip violation"?

a police officer gave me a ticket for..well among other things, he cited me for a "modified intake and exhaust for racing" and wrote down on the ticket CVC 27156(c) "smog equipment violation." i have an SR in my s14. Now, he SAID that i had to go to the state ref. But, no where on the ticket does it say anything about a state ref, it looks like a normal fix it, no extra stickers or writing or anything, and is marked "eligible for dismissal." I'd like to avoid going to the ref if i have to (swapping in a KA, good god). So i was wondering if this is simply a fix it and could be signed off.

My friend got a similar ticket in his 94 Supra TT. He got a modified intake ticket even tough he clearly showed the officer the CARB EO#. The officer said he wasn't sure and gave my friend a ticket anyways! Asshole! On the ticket it clearly stated "modified intake" and "eligible for dismissal" like you stated. The only way, I think, to dismiss your case is for the state referee to clear it.

Thank Jebus!!! You are a lucky guy cuz you woulda been out a sh*tload of money and possibly a car if you had to go to the ref. Did this happen to you in the Bay Area? I thought they only pulled that referee crap in So Cal. I hope my home town of San Francisco isn't going over to the evil side of this matter, but it looks like it is.

yea it happened in hayward. well, yea this cop was a jackass...and he's like yea u'll have to go to state ref. but then i asked specifically and they're like "well nowhere does it say here that for this u have to go to state ref" and the ticket is not marked with anything that says state ref, simply to sign off and correct, so i guess i'll do so. :) we'll see when it's all said and done.

Being an inhabitant of NorCal also... and also not aware that Hayward cops were part of the "bad group"... I just wanted to know why you were pulled over? Was it cuz you were going down the street in 3rd at like 5k rpm or something? (aka super loud exhaust?) Were you racing? Since you have an SR, did you have a giant exposed intercooler that attracted cops to you? Did you try refusing to pop your hood since he gave you a ticket for an intake as well (like the main argument in the other story on FA)
I've heard stories of other locations in the bay area, like Milpitas and such.... but what have you done your car (or have done driving) to attract the ticket in the first place? I have an exhaust only and still a stock KA but kinda worries me that cops are pulling people over just cuz they think they have probable cause. Glad to hear you got it taken care of though.

I was watching at the street races. I"m not blaming him for the fixit. However, everyone that got busted for jamming out only got fix its, where as this one cop...arrested me for "evading arrest" and "reckless driving," and i know i wasn't even driving recklessly cuz i was driving away at the spd limit. Just following, and the cop didn't pull up behind me w his lights on he just drove and cut me off...so yea i think i can say i got the asshole cop.

Oooooh, it was at the street races, that's a whole different story. They're still runnin in Hayward? I thought that was shut down and over a long time ago.

How can you get it "fixed" if you have an SR in your car? I'm confused.

You've better take a good look at that ticket again man, on the little box next to the violation number it should say correctable/noncorrectable (or something in the same context). If the cop put noncorrectable and you have a little white sticker on the back with the state referree phone number then you've got a state ref ticket. In the event that you do have a state ref ticket, you're screwed. I've had a few state ref tickets in the bay area and modifying intake is a smog violation and require a state referee to sign it off(atleast in san jose) . If your pocket is deep enough, I think you could just pay it off and not having to sign it off or go to state ref. Thank god I'm moving the to Texas for school in a few months.

This is why I stay away from South Bay, particularly at night... cops are rolling on cars left and right. (Hayward/FREMONT/Milpitas/San Jose etc)
But then again, you were at the runs, no wonder you got owned... you asked for it :P
At any rate, go fix it and be ok... I assume you were running aftermarket air intake and not the stock airbox/filter? Or did the cop mistake Intercooler piping for intake piping?
If the cop mistook the Intercooler piping for intake piping, just show the cop that its an intercooler pipe and point out how the valve cover says "NISSAN INTERCOOLER TURBO" on it :)
Worked for a coupe people I know. :P
Frisco is still a-ok tho Gleb, cops have better things to do here than bother us. :)

True...ive been stopped plenty of times  but 4 out of those 5 times were because of no front license plate. The other was for loud exhaust (2.5"), but he didn't give me a fix it ticket. There's plenty of redwood hondas farting around, so i'm not as concerned as before, plus now i have the front license plate...so far i havent been stopped again :ughd: *knocks on wood*

Don't give 'em a reason to pull you over. :D
I wasn't even gonna fuck around with no front plate, it takes like five seconds to do it and saves you the grief of getting rolled on.
Cops need to worry about rapists and theives, not kids in their Import cars... bust us if we're doing something retarded, like choku-dori in a public street or drag racing or some shit... otherwise please leave us alone. :fawk:

damn i've lived in hayward for 2.5 years (1.5 years with my 240) and i've never had trouble with the cops. only time i got pulled over was by motorcycle chp in between hayward and san leandro for no seatbelt, exhaust, front plate in windshield, and speeding, and he let me go. HA!
my bumper doesn't have licence plate holes either. and i was wearing my harness (cop just saw my automatic seatbelt thingy with no belt in it)

guys, i finally finished putting my baby together last nite, added some more neg camber just in case to be safe in case it rubs so my freshly painted fenders dont end up flying off, didnt even need any more camber where it was halfway before would have worked too, needless to say few miles down from my house i get pulled over for exhaust and modified emissions, intake/fuel.. FUGG THE POLICE in CA.. all of them, i was parked on the side waiting for my bro to fill up gas, saw them rolling by few times, then decided to split before they come behind me, proceeded to fwy, waiting to ge ton the ramp and they were 3 cars behind, as soon as they saw me going to fwy, they cross into opposite direction and box me in! Pop hood and so on came downto two fix it tickets, 27151, and 27156(b) for second i need to go to ref.. on ticket it shows fix-it checked off, but on back there is a sticker he placed to call state ref, (i can peel that off if it will fly at the court window)
Either way care came out just the way i planned, and the beauty is now sleeping at home (not allowed to drive it, or its getting impounded) screaming i want to be driven! Damn i'm so fuggin pissed!! This is my 13th clean project and first time i got hasseled by cops on this level.. (state ref chit) Any advice, help me get this japanese elenoar back on the road. heehhehehe, btw this is SOCAL of COURSE!

What's up guy, I got pulled over a few days ago for loud exhaust but it was an exhaust leak, any way he asked me to pop my hood an I did. I have an sr with fmic, an he told me I needed to have stickers that say the pipes are legal, an now I have to go to a state ref, what do you guys think would be the best way to go about it, I was thinking of getting another car like mine an switching license plates an help is appreciated. Thanks

^One, this thread is old as fuck.
Two, the question you're asking has been covered literally DOZENS of times in the Southwestern states regional section.
Three, you're a fucking idiot if you think you can can switch your plates to another 240 and roll into the ref station and expect to get away with it.
