One could say. Torque! But all Nissan inline engines are leaning to one side slightly because the engine torques to one side. Though you think the SR sits straight, it doesn't, it uses the same mounts as a KA.
Oh and when they sell torque dampers for SR they are for the left hand side.

that doesnt really explain why the dampers are on the left though,
think of where the fuck you would mount this on the other side,
injectors, manifold, crap loads of hoses.
my 180sx had so much room on the "left" side before a top mount turbo,
hell, those 2 holes it attaches to werent even being used by anything on my sr

It sits slightly tweaked to the right that why the oil pan is tapered to accomodate for the angle

Ah like I like I said the engine leans, as well as others( to the right).
the torque damper is on the left for more than just mount reasons.
Oh and look at your pan or valve cover and watch the way the motor torques the next time you rev it. That is the reason its on the left side .

KA engine is taller than SR engines, just the KA rod is more than an inch longer (6.5 vs 5.4) and the 1/2 stroke is 1.9 vs 1.7, if we set the motor to TDC will give us 6.5+1.9=8.4 for the KA and 5.4+1.7=7.1 for the SR. The KA is 1.3 longer than the SR engine. This could be one of the reasons that the KA engines have to be leaning.

yup.
the answer is right here:

pour out a lill liquor
better yet... maybe its to help keep the motor warm, because its so cold in the D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aktLRiWXfqg
its the torque & engine height, allows for lower hood and better reinforcement when the motor torques

my favorite thing about that s2k motor setup
the carbon intake............................................ ............... with the hood prop cutout.
yes.
its very VERY important to have hood pop provision, god forbid someone spends THAT much money on their motor setup, that they cannot afford to ditch the 2 dollar hood prop and buy hood lifts.
seriously. its more work to add that provision than it is to install hood lifts.
