I'm looking for pictures or owners of exhausts with dual tips, but those that aren't dual tipped mufflers or dual-single mufflers similar to the N1 style.

Something similar to this YouTube depiction: Dual Tip Exhaust (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTVVvVu2Z-o)

I'd like to utilize a muffler-before-axle setup, then run a single-split adapter out the back. I'm trying to determine how difficult it will be to do this, and if I should try it myself or get someone to do it for me. I may just do cat-to-axle with muffler myself, then have someone do the fancy stuff at the rear for me.

Blast Pipes are almost what I'm looking for. I want something a bit shorter, but same basic idea.

Only issue is that I'd like to see where they connect and the angles they use to get the desired look. Pretty much I'd like to make them myself $30, but I want to know where to go with them.

I made my own exhaust using a "muffler before axle" setup. Basically took a 3" SR20 downpipe, sectioned it so it fits up as close as possible to the floor, and put a 14" Dynatech Split Flow muffler in, basically starting right where the stock car went.

Here's the muffler I used - 3" straight through, 14" long body, about $100:

Here you can see how the muffler really takes all the space before the subframe - you can split the pipes before or after the subframe, much more room after :)

Did the muffler before the axle has any perceptible change on decibels?

Basically, I'm trying to get a certain look for a certain price, but if it's really quiet, that doesn't bother me. I think that being a straight muffler with no bends, it'll be loud no matter what I can fit between the cat and the axle, but I wouldn't be apposed if it turned out to be a bit more quiet than the normal exhaust of that type.

Downside is that I really don't want to delete the cat, but I might have to at this point. The one that's on the car now is probably a piece of junk anyhow, and should be replaced with a high-flow, but I'm broke.

I really didn't want to spend any money on the car, but right now it's making a horrendous racket...something in one of the mufflers gave loose is now not only making the muffer useles (big leak) but is rattling around. Sounds horrible.

Change as opposed to what? Stock? I wouln't know. I run a SR with that 14" and a N1 canister-style (Aspec Long Tip) muffler at the end, and it's street-legal <95db.

Yup, I think you'd have to delete the cat to fit something that big - otherwise, you could probably fit a 10" right after the cat, if you didn't have any flanges. As far as volume, bends don't affect that, just mufflers and cats.

Keep in mind that my setup cost over $300 just in parts - one 3" 3-bolt flange, the $100 Dynatech muffler, the Aspec muffler (hookup), 4 hangars, and 8 feet or so of 3" thin-wall tubing.

I'm thinking of running 3" downpipe/header/whateverisonthere to axle, then reducing to 2.5" dual tip. Maybe 3", I dunno, I think something the size of the Blast Pipes are a bit overkill on my bone stock S13.

I'm not running or show car or race car, so I'm not sure I'd want to invest in a quality muffler...might just try to throw on whatever is cheap and make it with flanges on both ends for easy replacement.

I was debating getting a basic 2.5inch with a cheaper normal placement muffler, but I'm thinking if I work this right I may be able to get away with something that's got a little style for a not a whole lot more cash.

In regards to how loud it will be, depending what set up you go with, it will probably be pretty loud either way. From my personal experience, I built a full exahust for my car. Its an aftermarket header, then when I first made it, it was 3" straight pipe, no cat, no mufflers, angled out the back, then I put an 18" vibrant resonator in, didn't help at all, then I put an old school blitz muffler on the end, and it is still really loud.
