ok, before i call up the locksmith and get a whole new set of keys and locks,

i just want to know if theres any other solution to this problem..

my friend only key broke today from locking/opening his driver side door, luckly he got the other piece out the key whole, but can he go to nissan and get another set of keys for his car just by giving them the VIN#, i heard you can do these on the new hondas, but with a proof of ownership.

the only key has to open the car and drive.

or should he just get a whole new set, including the ignition cylinder?

take it to a locksmith they'll make you a new key. no need for buying a whole net lock set.

iirc, the key code is on the back of the glove compartment somewhere? if this is an s13 that is for sure... i needed to make extras due to old key being worn down.

so locksmith can duplicate the key just by the key whole? cool, might as well do that.. im sensing the whole " going to nissan dealership" is going to be expensive.. thanks!

is behind the glove box, or i need to pull it out and see.. i might have to do the same thing with MY s13 but i think i grab another glove box from the junkyard. so yeah =/.. ill take a look though, thanks... i never knew that.

ive taken both parts of a broken key(S14) to ACE and they made a key from both parts and it worked perfectly. they taped it together and made a copy.

Just get the 4 digit number(s) off this.

If this sticker is gone, like some of mine have been, if all your lock cylinders were still the same, pop out the truck lock cylinder (it's the easiest) and take it to a locksmith. I paid $25 for them to make a key to match the lock cylinder.

Instead of paying a mobile motherfucker to come out and do it.

FYI, if its an '89, they will not have it in the computer system. Well at least the Nissan dealership I went to last weekend couldn't do '89's.

did the same thing. spent all day trying to get it out, then it took them 4 minutes to
cut a perfect new one out of the two halves. $12 or something.

this isn't a big issue. it's common (car) sense, not 's-chassis discussion'.

lock this thread or something.

i was half expecting to hear that the dude locked himself inside the car, so he can't go to a locksmith.

thats what i did too. one of my friends worked at a hardware store, so when i broke my key in half i brought it in to him and he was able to make a key that worked.

wow, can't even search for a picture of a key. picture your generic key with a black plastic cover over the portion that doesn't go into the cylinder locks. Now picture "Nissan" engraved on it.

How was I suppose to know that's what the key they were selling looks like? There are a lot of Nissan keys, some that don't even have the plastic cover.

My key that came with my car had the code right on it. It was a nissan key, too.
Is that just a JDM thing? or do all S13 keys have that?

DreamN
04-18-2009, 11:16 AM
I believe original keys did as my silvia keys and the ignition cylinder have the code on them.

I had a hard time coat-hangering my car--the lock took too much pressure to move.

A lacrosse stick through the thankfully open sunroof did the trick, though
