View Full Version : How many times have you...?

So some people down the street from my house assume that because my car (S13) is loud (3' full catback + headers) that i MUST be haulin tail down the neighborhood. Eventhough i dont speed in neighborhoods, cause im scared someone will run a stop sign lol stupid texans.
anyways.
How many times have you been stereotyped by your car? And was it bad enough that someone tried to do something?
lol even just today i was downshifting to a red light and some guy started flagging me down cause he thought i was revving at him lmao
he was in a saturn vue...wth is wrong with these people????
I never really did. Why were you downshifting at a redlight lol?
Rev matching at a corner is different. But if i didn't know shit about cars and saw some japanese car revving higher than normal come up next to me at a light, id think the same.

because its good practice for me to use heel toe when its not required, and get a feel for it. so that way i dont end up locking my wheels on an actual corner or something stupid like that lol and i mean a lot of people downshift when they come to a stop. it lets your rpms drop faster because your in a lower gear. also i went from 45 to 0 and didnt want to use only the brakes.

04-16-2009, 05:42 PM
wait... so you just put it in neutral and coast to the light???
I allways downshift. Not like im droppin into second at like 5k lol. Its just to slow me down and keep my brakes lasting longer. Plus most the time I see a red and I just let off the gas and down shift and usually by the time im to the light it turns green so im in the appropriat gear.
oh well. Its peoples different driving styles.
And yeah, some people are retarded. As soon as they see your car is modified they try racing you. Apparently ALL imports are racing cars of doom that shoot flames out the exhaust and have NOS!
Never ever ever. I guess I dont drive like an ass on the street

I get the signal to slow down when going 25 miles an hour around my neighborhood.
I just smile and wave.
Anybody over the age of 30 gives me death glares wherever I go; little kids stare and give me thumbs up. It's all part of owning a loud and low automobile--people think you race around everywhere.
Just don't do anything stupid...don't give anybody anything to be angry at you about.
And yeah, I don't downshift coming to a red light; it's unnecessary and I know that if I see someone else doing it, I automatically classify them as a jackass. So I refrain.

well, i only downshifted from to 3rd at like 40~45 mph. i wouldnt really call that driving like an ass. lol i can see if cut him off or something. i think some people should just get a life. i mean if im driving in a way that i think is better and im not putting anyone in danger than whats the big deal??

i downshift through every gear whenever i have the chance. just a habit.
i drove a '94 mustang GT back in HS. cruising around in 2nd through the neighborhood doing like 20mph people used to yell "slow down" all the time. it was just a 5.0 with flowmasters. they assumed i was flying through the neighborhood. lol.

You're asking a question we've all discussed since the dawn of the internet, and even more so since kids were able to drive cars. There are always idiot kids who drive like morons and start shit, that leads to assumptions from everyone else on the road. Then anyone else who owns something the idiot kids also own gets the same assumption.
No point in creating a thread about it. We all own/have owned 240s at some point so we've all had people act like pricks because they assume we're like every other 240SX owner. Sadly, 99% of 240SX owners are like that anyway, which leads to the assumptions in the first place. Hence why the majority of us drive something else these days.

I don't get why so many of u keep talking about downshifting to slow down or to save your brakes. Last I checked it's easier to change brakes than a clutch.

All the time, canton city police and stark county sheriffs have come out to my house on numerous occasions. I don't speed at all in my neighborhood, I know better I mean shit that's commonsense and sadly most people lack it. I however drive a loud ass car which has gotten the cops to come out to my house a bunch of times. All but one cop was really cool about it they pretty much hinted at the fact that the people were just being bitches. Hell, one even thought my car was cool and said he watched formula d on tv before. The dickhead cop however said a bunch of bullshit on how he's gonna give me reckless op and speeding tickets and shit. I then told him he couldn't do that because he had no proof of the incidents. He then asked me if I was getting smart with him and I said "no, I was just stating the obvious."

well,i gotta agree that stupid people tend to ruin a lot of good things for good people, however not owning my car because someone else drives theirs like an idiot just doesnt seem like an option to me lol :nono: i love my car, as many other 240 enthusiasts do. And i mainly started the thread to see if anyone else had the same problem because for all i know i could just have uptight neighbors. i mean ive lived in two other neighborhoods with the same car and mods on the car and no one ever acted like that to me before. so i was just kinda shocked to be honest. lol just seein if other people got stereotyped like this too. and to me, starting a small thread on one of countless car forums doesnt seem to be an excessive action just to get some feedback. but then again im not really a forum kinda guy. i was just wondering.

WHAT THE FUCK. i get the same shit. just like 2 weeksd ago, i came down the street, and i was in 2nd gear so it was kinda loud, my mom comes running out and shes like
DO NOT SPEED IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
im like lol, i was barely doing the fucking speed limit. And when i am loud, well its awesome.

lol thats awesome. the cops around here dont even do anything. i talked to one and he said i would have to hit someone before he would do anything... :wtf:
maybe its a southern thing. i think our local govt takes the 2nd amendment too far :axe:
lol people start thinking they can enforce the laws in my neighborhood lol thats why its wierds me out lol
one guy told me that if i didnt slow down i would never drive again cause he's kill me. lol he wasnt even outside when i drove by. he said he heard me haulin.
i was like "wth?" lol

In my old 300zx I got pulled over because it "sounded like you were going too fast." I literally laughed out loud when he said that. I wasn't even doing the speed limit. Local cops here are idiots.
Now I daily a stock g35 and I still get the death stares and people waving at me to slow down when I'm going 20 on my street. If there's little kids outside I go about 10 (crazy kids like to run out into the middle of the street) and I still get glared at. Meanwhile, those same soccer moms come flying down the street in their mini vans and blindly pull out of their driveways without looking.

My e36 325i is automatic but I don't like keeping my DD stock so it is dropped and has some nice wheels with stretched tires. It only has stock exhaust so it sounds nice but not aftermarket. I drive through neighborhoods and I get a few "SLOW DOWN"s and people honking. It's stupid because I'll look at my speedo and it reads the speed limit haha. I just ignore it now. Idk why or what makes them think I am speeding but oh well..

i get stereotyped all the time in my honda. although the body isnt the greatest condition the engine work and swap i did is still one of the cleanest in town.
i really dont understand the hating on hondas from 240/nissan guys. 240 jackasses are just as bad as the civic ones. i drive both a 240 and a civic. then again i can appriciate ANY type of car

Ok. Not trying to be a smart ass, but what constitutes as a ricer? This is a legit question not intended to offend anyone. I mean I'm pretty sure, I'm not a ricer. I have a real cf hood. (Not painted black) slightly lowered. But not all that much, and I have real corbeau adjustable racing seats. Headers and 3" full catback I'm pretty sure that's not ricer. Although I don't really know what a ricer is. Prolly cause I don't really go on forums much.
CrimsonRockett
04-17-2009, 11:44 AM
You're a ricer because we say so.(Joke)
Ricer, to me, is somebody that is just really trying too hard.
I've met people that are "yah man, look at my shit yo. it's jdm as fawwwkkk".
That's ricer to me.
Ridiculous looking kits with sunken as hell wheels is ricer to me.
It's just a matter of personal opinion.
Like, drag people thinking drifting is stupid.
Or, the mentality that 100% of Honda owners are stupid/idiots just because the majority of them actually are.
You trying to defend yourself by saying you're not a ricer...seems like a ricer to me.

I was running a welded differential last year and I was pulling around a corner just a block away from my house and of course the tire squeals a little cause of the diff and a woman screams off her porch. "There's no need for that shit!" And me and my friend were baffled as she stared us down after. I had stock exhaust and was going Under 10KM/H......Society on a whole is fucked.

I drive my Volvo 240 during the weekdays now. I don't care but so much if my car (S14 with light mods) upsets anyone or is stereotyped in anyway...just as long as it isn't the local police doing the stereotyping ....
---edit--- I did have a gun pulled :rl: on me in the city at one point b/c some other idiot in a 3000GT cut this guy in a pickup off like an ass...then I pulled up next to the pickup at the light. i was immediately made out to be "best friends" with the douche driving the 3000GT...guy cursed I tried to rationalize with him...then guy pulled gun :rl:...then I peeled the shit out of there :2f2f:

I was in rush hour traffic in Kansas City. The kid next to me in a stock yellow Tiburon kept doing drag launches whenever traffic inched forward just to slam on the brakes. Of course, I was being the professional in the semi. I dont know what his problem was but, hes an accident waiting to happen. So now, I watch out for yellow tiburons.

which is even worse

i didn't even notice the "downshifting to a stoplight" thing. that's fucking retarded, just based on fuel consumption.

04-18-2009, 11:24 AM
umm actually downshifting to a stop SAVES gas.
when you downshift your engine leans out, instead of just idling with the clutch in.
read your owners manual, most manufacturers RECOMMEND downshifting to a stop, both to save gas and your brakes. if you do it correctly there should be no harm to your engine or drivetrain.
theres nothing "rice" about downshifting. its common practice.
not saying that i do it all the time though, since i'm lazy so i just throw it in neutral and press the brakes....
