I don't get why everyone jocks Simple Green so hard. That shit sucks compared to the degreaser that I used to use at work (detailing cars at a Toyota dealer). I have no clue what it was, but it was red, and if it got in your eyes, DAMN did it burn!

That shit also etches aluminum and takes paint off concrete. It shouldn't be used anywhere near a car, thats why everyone likes Simple Green because it isn't destructive chemical. We used it to degrease used engine blocks and heads before machining them, I can't believe you would ever use that on a car.
check out meguiars All purpose cleaner. I have it and it works well - it comes concentrated so you can mix to your needs.

Perhaps you're thinking of something else. I used it to clean rims, tires, and engine bays all the time with no ill effects.

Nope, I know exactly what you're talking about. It red, it pretty much melts your skin off and it usually comes in 5 gallon containers. It does melt grease and grime away though.

^Eh. Perhaps. Ours came in 50+ gallon drums and didn't hurt the skin at all. It made it feel real smooth. lol
I dunno, may it was "bad" to use, but I never let it sit for more than 30-45 seconds before spraying it down with a pressure washer. lol

I worked at a lot where we used some of that red stuff mentioned above and i think it was pretty much the same stuff they use in that eagle 1 etching mag cleaner which is based off of like 3 different acids. It would def. burn the skin, but it would clean up anything in carpet and would make an engine bay spotless.
The meguiar's hot rims polish is AWSOME. Its probably the best polish i have ever used, also probably one of the more abrasive polishes. Ive heard the meguiars NXT polish is even better.

I use Wicked brand polish, and it's the shit!!! Works really well, doesn't go on super think either, so it's easy to work with. I wouldn't recommend it to cut, in that case, use some eagle 1 steel wool.

I like Palmolive dish soap for heavy grease. Use lots of it and the grease melts away. It's cheap too.

Metal polish - ive always used:
Amazon.com: Eagle One 1031605 Nevr-Dull Wadding Polish: Automotive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CNBI1A)
Degreaser - by far the best/safest degreaser i have ever used.
MARINE CLEAN-POR-15 Inc. (http://www.por15.com/MARINE-CLEAN/productinfo/MCG/)
Seriously, mix 1part cleaner with 1part warm water. Spray. Light agitation with a brush or cloth and BAM! Like new.
I use this product in engine bays, and on suspension & engine parts. GREAT for cleanning items before paint!
