So I'm doing my clutch, got everything off down to the flywheel.

I have never had to take off flywheel bolts without an Impact. What do you guys usually do? I would imagine just jam a screwdriver in the teeth or something, but I don't want to do that.

I have 3 impact guns, and a compressor, but the compressor is out at the farm right now, so the soonest I would have it to use would be monday, and I don't really want to wait.

Any prefered ways of doing the job without the luxuries of air? Please do tell.

Electric impact is an option too, just want to see other methods first.

Thanks all.

if you have an electric/cordless? impact... why dont you use that?

if not that... then put a rachet on the front of the crank pulley bolt and lock it to the side of the frame while you break the flywheel bolts.

i get a breaker bar and 27mm socket, put socket on crank pulley and angle the breaker bar so that it rests against something solid. when you turn the flywheel bolt, the breaker bar stops the crank from turning by pushing against whatever its resting against.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my first post. I don't have an electric impact (well I do, but its at the farm too) I was just thinking I might go out tomorrow and grab one.

Don't know why I didn't think of putting a breaker bar on the front pulley, I even have the 27mm socket haha. I will do that tomorrow after work.

Thanks for the input.

I screwed a Pressure Plate bolt into the Flywheel (all the way in to prevent damaging the threads) and a Transmission case to engine bolt (on the Exhaust side of the engine) and placed a wrench resting in both bolts to prevent the flywheel to rotate. For the Tranny bolt you could insert it through a socket for preventing damaging the treads. Like this:

Sorry for the crappy PaintCAD drawing. To tight them do the same thing in the opposite side. I have done it using the crank bolt but i have also loosen it while trying to remove/tightening the flywheel bolts. Here you have 2 options use the best that works for you.

Put a screw driver through one of the pressure plate bolt holes and wedge it into one of the ridges in the back of the block(one of the top right ones works on SR). That's how I do it.

Just did it the other day to torque my flywheel.

This. Always has worked for me, couple times I used this over an impact gun.

Easiest way is to put a socket in the teeth of flywheel and where one of the bell housing bolts go through. Heres my crappy drawing of a demo.

Ended up using this method actually. I just so happened to find a piece of metal strapping that looked like it was ment for the job. Tightened one end on to the flywheel using a pressure plate bolt, and put a screwdriver through the other end then stuck it through a tranny bolt hole on the block. One cut knuckle, a bruised elbow, and a few minutes later they were all out.

Now I just need to get the flywheel resurfaced and put it all back together.

I love having 2 vehicles, you can take your sweet ass time doing things, and still get around haha.

ya dude...wedge some shit in there, it won't hurt the teeth... And when you torque it back on..it wont be with a an impact gun. oyu will have to use a torque wrench to do it right, so you'll ahve to jam shit in there anyway.
